Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the subject of both charts and include an overview, noting that refrigerators become the most widely owned appliance and that housework time falls. You also report several relevant figures, such as vacuum cleaner ownership reaching 100% and housework taking about 50 hours in 1920. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators start at about 2%, not 0%, and reach 100% by 1980, rather than only by the end. Washing-machine ownership rises overall to about 75% in 2019, not 65%, and it is not the least-owned appliance throughout. The housework figures are presented in reverse chronological order, making the trend harder to understand. More accurate comparisons and a clearer account of the overall trends would strengthen the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about appliance ownership and a final paragraph about housework hours. This gives the reader some organisation, and you attempt to connect ideas with phrases such as “in contrast” and “meanwhile.” However, progression within the paragraphs is often difficult to follow. The appliance paragraph moves between series and years without a consistent order, while the housework paragraph begins with 2019 and then jumps back to 1980, 1940 and 1920. Some linking expressions are also used where the relationship is unclear. Grouping the appliance trends together in a consistent chronological sequence, then describing the steady decline in housework hours, would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentage,” “fluctuated” and “hours per week,” and you try to describe change with terms such as “increase” and “accounted for.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. For example, “refrigerator had accounted for the highest among then two” does not clearly express that it had the highest ownership, and “it is mix with refrigerator” is not an appropriate way to say the figures became equal. Spelling errors such as “applicanes,” “amopunt” and “fluactated” are also noticeable. Practise accurate trend language and collocations, such as “ownership rose to,” “remained stable at” and “was the most widely owned appliance.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt longer sentences and use some time references, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between figures difficult to interpret. For example, “refrigerator begin with 0% it dramatically changes in 1940” joins clauses without suitable punctuation and uses inconsistent verb forms. In “washing machine have a smallest,” the subject–verb agreement and article structure are incorrect. The sentence beginning “in the terms of household number of hours” also has an unclear grammatical structure, and several clauses lack clear subjects or complete verb patterns. Use shorter, complete sentences first, checking subject–verb agreement and past-tense forms when describing historical data; then combine ideas with accurate punctuation and conjunctions.
