Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the period and the main rise in appliance ownership, and you note that washing-machine ownership fluctuated. However, the response covers only part of the task: it omits the housework-hours series entirely, so the key comparison between increasing appliance ownership and declining housework time is missing. Some figures and trends are also unclear or inaccurate: washing-machine ownership is described as rising “from 1920 to 1960” without clear values, and the refrigerator’s substantial rise after almost zero in 1920 is not reported with later figures. The overview is incomplete, and the response is 36 words below the required minimum. To improve, include both charts, select key figures across the period, and summarise their overall relationship.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and a paragraph with details. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Moreover” show an effort to connect information. However, progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are compressed into long, unclear sentences, especially the washing-machine comparison beginning “approximately 40% to 70% of households owned…” The overview also moves abruptly between appliances without clearly grouping the main trends, and the housework data is absent. Use separate, focused paragraphs for the overview and key details, and make each sentence express one comparison or trend. More precise links between the appliance figures and housework hours would make the organisation clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “ownership,” “fluctuation,” “increased,” and “steadily,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret: “owership,” “refrigenerator,” “appoximately,” and “vaccum” are misspelled, while “experienced significantly grown” and “sharply increased in over period” are unnatural combinations. “Amount of time that spent in households” is also imprecise for the hours of housework. Aim for accurate forms such as “ownership,” “refrigerator,” and “vacuum cleaner,” and use standard trend phrases such as “rose significantly,” “declined slightly,” and “the time spent on housework.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “While” and “In contrast.” However, the range is limited, and complex constructions are often faulty. For example, “Overall, the ownership … over the period” has no main verb, while “While washing machine show a slight fluctuation” is an incomplete clause and has subject–verb disagreement. In “the amount of time that spent,” the relative clause lacks a subject, and the sentence about washing machines has an unclear structure and tense sequence. These errors can make relationships between figures hard to follow. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense consistency when describing past trends.
