Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the topic and make a relevant broad observation that appliance ownership generally rose. However, the response is substantially incomplete: it stops mid-sentence after “Washing machine was at 40%, increased” and does not report the housework-hours trend at all. The overview also says washing machines “remained the least common,” which is not accurate throughout: they began highest, but were overtaken by refrigerators and vacuum cleaners. Only a few starting figures and endpoint claims are included, with no meaningful comparison across the period. The response contains 81 words, below the required 150; the 19 words copied from the prompt are excluded. To improve, complete the account, cover both charts, and select key changes and comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening sentence, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a paragraph giving some figures. This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the progression is cut off before the washing-machine trend is explained, and the second paragraph does not develop into a complete comparison. The overview and details are not fully aligned, particularly the claim that washing machines remained least common. Cohesive links are sparse, and the final phrase “increased” has no completion or endpoint. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and grouped details, and connect comparisons explicitly—for example, contrast the rapid rise in refrigerator ownership with the steadier washing-machine trend and the fall in housework hours.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “electrical appliances,” “households,” “percentage,” and “dramatically,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors reduce accuracy: “qwership,” “electical,” “dramaticlly,” and “Wahing.” Some phrasing is also awkward or imprecise, such as “all the three electical appliances” and “remained the least common appliances.” Use standard chart language and accurate collocations, such as “the proportion of households owning,” “rose sharply,” and “was the least widely owned.” Check spelling carefully, and avoid repeating “increased” when more precise verbs such as “climbed,” “reached,” or “levelled off” would describe the data better.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few sentence forms, including a complex contrast with “whereas,” and the opening sentence communicates the topic. However, grammatical control is uneven. In “refrigerator starting under 5%, which was increased,” the first clause lacks a finite verb and the passive construction is not appropriate for describing the figure. “Washing machine was at 40%, increased” is also incomplete, while “all the three” and “appliances” after “least common” show problems with determiner use and number. The response relies mainly on simple statements and does not demonstrate a controlled range of structures. Build complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, for example, “The figure for refrigerators rose from about 2% to 100%,” and proofread agreement, articles, and sentence endings.
