Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two broad trends: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell. You also report several starting figures and the 1940 housework figure. However, the account only partially covers the main data: it omits the refrigerator’s rise to 100% by 1980 and the vacuum cleaner’s increase to 100% by 2000, and it does not clearly describe the washing-machine dip and later recovery. Some statements are inaccurate or unclear: the refrigerator was about 2%, not 0%, in 1920; the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner were not “almost equal” throughout 1940–2000; and the final appliance figures are not given. The overview is relevant but too general. Select key turning points and compare the series more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the appliance data and housework hours. “Overall” and “Meanwhile” help signal the broad sections. However, progression within the body paragraphs is weak: the appliance paragraph moves from 1920 to a broad, unclear comparison and then to 2019 without reporting the important intermediate changes. References such as “the two appliances” and “this appliances” are not always clear, and several sentences repeat “used by households” or “in the year.” The final paragraph also combines several years in a confusing way. Organise the figures chronologically and use clearer links between comparisons so the reader can follow each trend.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “proportion,” “electrical appliances,” and “decreased considerably,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the proportion of electrical appliances used by households in one year” does not clearly describe the percentage of households owning each appliance, while “hours per week people used these appliances” misrepresents the chart, which measures time spent doing housework. There are also spelling errors such as “incraesed,” “eqaul,” and “thye.” Aim for precise chart language and vary repeated phrases such as “used by households”; proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the topic. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several statements difficult to interpret. For example, “refrigerator used by households is 0%” lacks an article and a clear grammatical structure, while “the proportion … shown in the figure” is an incomplete sentence. In “washing machine and vacuum cleaner were used by households,” the sentence has no reported percentage or clear comparison. The final sentence also repeats “people” and has an unclear time expression. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, accurate articles and plurals, and clear past-tense reporting; then check that each sentence expresses one complete comparison.
