Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you include several relevant figures. However, the overview contains major factual errors: refrigerators did not disappear after 2000; ownership remained at 100% through 2019, and the vacuum cleaner and washing machine were not simply “competing” at the end. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: the refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and housework fell to about 11 hours, rather than 10. The account of the second graph is especially limited, omitting the steady decline from 50 hours in 1920 to 15 in 1980 and the subsequent plateau. Select the main trends accurately and summarise both graphs more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the appliance and housework data. This helps the reader identify which graph is being discussed. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and several linking expressions are used inaccurately or mechanically, such as “While,” at the start of a sentence and “Where as” in the overview. The appliance paragraph moves through the series, but the final paragraph gives only a brief, unclear account of the housework trend. Use clearer topic sentences and connect comparisons directly—for example, contrast the refrigerator’s early rise with the vacuum cleaner’s more gradual increase—so the information develops logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “stability,” “increased,” and “decreased,” and the reader can generally recognise the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. Examples include “climber sharply,” “the use … grow,” “his uses,” and “appliances” misspelled as “appliaces.” Phrases such as “used until year 2000 only” also express the wrong meaning, not just an awkward collocation. Aim for precise trend language and accurate noun phrases, such as “ownership rose sharply,” “remained stable,” and “housework hours per household.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including contrasts introduced by “While” and time clauses such as “After 1960 to 2000,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “vacuum cleaner and washing machine is” and “the use … grow,” while sentence fragments and punctuation problems occur in “While, other graph shows…” and “But, after 1960…” Missing or incorrect articles and prepositions also affect clarity, as in “from 1920 to 2019” and “reached 75% end of 2019.” Use complete sentences, check subject–verb agreement, and keep past-tense reporting consistent. For example: “Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920 to 90% in 1960.”
