Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the broad topic and attempts an overview, but it does not adequately summarise the charts. Several figures and trends are misreported: washing-machine ownership was 40% in 1920, not 60%, and refrigerators began at about 2%, not 0%; the claim that washing-machine ownership remained constant is also inaccurate, as it rose overall with a dip around 1980. The housework-hours chart is not described at all, and the response ends mid-sentence while discussing refrigerators. The answer is also 25 words below the required minimum, with 10 prompt words excluded from the count. To improve, include both charts, give a clear overview of the main trends, and support it with accurate comparisons across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and a detail paragraph, and words such as “Overall,” “However” and “then” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview contains conflicting claims, and the final paragraph stops abruptly at “which increased,” leaving the comparison unfinished. Some information is repeated, particularly the discussion of washing-machine ownership, while the housework chart is omitted, so the response does not develop a complete sequence through the data. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate, logically ordered detail paragraphs for the appliance trends and housework hours. Complete each comparison and use clear references to the years and categories.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response shows some relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “household,” “appliances” and “constant,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or awkward, as in “alters in the possesion,” “period of time utilized,” “greatest share of husehold” and “cover 100% percentage.” These errors make several statements difficult to interpret and limit precision when describing trends. There is also repetition of “household” and “percentage,” while “washing” is used where the appliance category should be named consistently. Practise accurate collocations for chart descriptions, such as “ownership rose,” “reached 100%” and “hours of housework declined,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a sequence using “then.” Nevertheless, errors in sentence construction and control are frequent enough to make relationships unclear. For example, “Refrigerator and Vacuum cleaner has become” has subject–verb disagreement, while “that are remain constant” combines incompatible verb forms. The sentence beginning “Overall” also runs several claims together without appropriate sentence boundaries, and spacing after full stops is inconsistent. The final clause, “the refrigerator started with 30% which increased,” is incomplete. Build accurate short sentences first, then add subordinate clauses carefully; check agreement, tense consistency, articles and punctuation in each sentence.
