Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies several appliance figures and attempts an overview, but the main trend is substantially misreported: housework did not rise from a minimum of 0% to 100%; it fell from 50 hours per week in 1920 to 11 in 2019. This confuses the hours series with appliance ownership and leaves the most important overall comparison inaccurate. Some appliance details are also wrong or unclear: refrigerators rose from about 2% to 55% by 1940, rather than declining to 10%, and washing-machine ownership was about 65% in 1980, not “almost 60%.” The response does mention the rise in refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership, but omits the steady decline in housework and gives no clear, accurate overview of the chart’s key patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two detail paragraphs. The chronology also gives the appliance information some progression, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” show an effort to connect points. However, the overview is not a reliable guide to the details, and the final paragraph ends abruptly after one brief point. Connections between figures are sometimes unclear—for example, “Vacuum cleaner had half percentage as compare to washing machine” does not clearly state the values or comparison. Several transitions are mechanical or awkward, so the reader must work to follow the intended relationships. Group the main trends first, then compare the series with clear references and complete sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “increased,” “decline,” and the appliance names, and it attempts to describe change over time. However, word choice and spelling errors frequently make the meaning unclear: “liner illustration,” “data calibrate,” “view point,” “refrigertor,” and “samiliarly” are examples. Several phrases are not natural for describing charts, such as “100% doing housework in household” and “washing machine doing in housework.” Use precise terms such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “hours spent on housework.” Also distinguish ownership percentages from hours per week; accurate vocabulary for each measure would make the comparisons much clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts longer sentences and uses time clauses and linking phrases, but sentence structure is often incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “As it can be seen that in year 1920 had 0% refrigerator” lacks a clear subject and has an awkward clause structure; “in the year 1980 almost 60% washing machine doing in housework” has no correctly formed main verb. Articles and prepositions are also frequently missing or misplaced, as in “in year 2019” and “compare to washing machine.” Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and full stops. Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb—for example, “Refrigerator ownership rose to 55% in 1940”—and check tense, articles, and sentence boundaries.
