Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies the three appliance categories and recognises that refrigerator ownership rose to full household coverage, while washing machines began at a relatively high level and changed less. However, the task is addressed only minimally: the second chart on weekly housework hours is not reported at all, and there is no clear overview comparing the main trends across both charts. Several details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators were at about 2% in 1920, not zero, and the washing-machine trend is described as fluctuating without reporting its overall rise from 40% to 75%. The vacuum-cleaner figures are also confused with the refrigerator series. To improve, summarise both charts and select a few accurate start, end, and turning-point values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation: the response begins with an introduction, then uses separate paragraphs to discuss appliance trends, and includes sequencing expressions such as “Firstly” and “In the other hand.” However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview merely says there are three lines, and the discussion shifts between appliances without consistently identifying which series is being described. The long paragraph beginning “Firstly” contains several ideas joined together with weak punctuation, while the final paragraph is too brief to complete the comparison. Some linking phrases are repeated or used awkwardly. A clearer structure would be an introduction, an overview of the main trends in both charts, and focused detail paragraphs grouped by related trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “percentage,” “households,” “starting percentage,” and “progressive,” showing an attempt to describe trends. However, vocabulary is basic and often inaccurate or difficult to understand. Misspellings such as “poupular,” “prograshive,” “flucted,” and “vachuum” reduce clarity, while phrases such as “the one of the progressive line” and “get the value of 90%” are not natural ways to describe a graph. The repeated use of “line” and “position” also limits precision. Build a reliable set of graph-description collocations, such as “rose to,” “remained stable,” “reached 100%,” and “declined,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to form longer sentences and use time references, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “the one of the popular … line is start” has incorrect sentence structure and verb form, and “In 1960 it reases the percentage and get the value” does not maintain correct tense or agreement. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “from the year of 1980 to 2019 it go the position.” Punctuation is unreliable: several sentences run together, including the passage ending “100%.Therefour”. Practise accurate simple past forms for historical data and build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb before attempting longer structures.
