Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two broad trends: appliance ownership generally increased, while weekly housework time declined. However, the report is incomplete and does not cover the full range of data. It gives only a few appliance figures, omits the vacuum-cleaner trend and most of the housework figures, and ends mid-comparison (“abruptly decreased”), leaving the washing-machine account unclear. Some details are inaccurate: refrigerator ownership was about 2% in 1920, not 0%, and reached 100% by 1980, rather than becoming stable only from 2000 to 2019. The response contains 105 words, below the required 150; 17 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Add a complete overview and select key comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of details. The overview also signals a contrast between appliance ownership and housework time. However, progression is difficult to follow because the detail paragraph jumps between refrigerators and washing machines, then stops before completing the comparison. Linking is limited and sometimes awkward: “Whereas” begins a sentence without a contrasting clause, while repeated time references do not clearly connect the figures. Separate the appliance trends from the housework trend, group related comparisons, and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.” Complete each point before moving to the next so the reader can follow the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentage,” “increased,” and “stable,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “percentage on boost trap,” “his ratio,” and “fell down year by year slightly” are not natural ways to describe chart trends. There are also spelling errors in “vaccum” and “among” where a time-period expression is intended. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data—for example, “rose to,” “remained stable,” and “the proportion of households.” Check spelling and use the same clear terms consistently for each appliance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex forms, including “Whereas, the amount of time fell…” and “In 1960 … whereas…,” but control is weak and errors frequently interrupt the message. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “The given charts illustrates,” and the opening also has problems with articles and the time expression “among 1920 and 2019.” Several clauses lack a clear grammatical structure, particularly “100 percentage is remain stable” and the unfinished final sentence. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, with comma splices and sentence fragments. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense, articles and punctuation before submitting.
