Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You provide an overview of the main broad patterns: refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership increased, while weekly housework declined. You also include relevant figures for 1960 and the starting and ending housework totals. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: in 1940, ownership was not 50% for all three appliances (the washing machine was about 60%, refrigerator 55%, and vacuum cleaner 50%); washing-machine ownership fell to about 65% in 1980, not 52%; and the 2019 figure was about 75%, rather than all products simply climbing. The claim that washing machines were the “least bought” is not consistently true. More precise comparisons and a clearer account of the appliances’ different trends would make the report more complete and reliable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership and a final paragraph on housework. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, progression within the appliance paragraph is weakened by inaccurate, compressed comparisons, such as “in 1940 it rose dramatically 50% of all three appliances,” and the shift to the 1980 washing-machine figure is not clearly connected to the other series. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Similarly” and “Comparatively” are used, but some do not accurately signal the relationship between ideas. Organise the data chronologically and distinguish each appliance clearly; this would make the comparisons easier to follow and the cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to trends, including “rose dramatically,” “fluctuating,” “decreased gradually” and “plummeted.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing this chart: “buyers” and “purchasing” suggest sales rather than household ownership, while “least bought appliance” does not precisely describe the percentage of households owning an appliance. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “throught,” “flauctuating,” “comparision,” “vaccum” and “droped.” Repeated use of “increased” and “decreased” also limits precision. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…” and choose verbs that match the size and direction of each change.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and some attempts at more complex sentences, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in sentence structure and agreement recur. For example, “Ownership of Refrigerator and vacuum cleaner rose” needs clearer article and plural control, while “ownership of all appliances were sharply increased” has an agreement problem and an incorrect passive construction. The phrase “hours that spent in house work was decreased” is also structurally faulty; a clearer form would be “the time spent on housework decreased.” Some sentences join ideas awkwardly, as in the 1960 comparison, and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons in complete, well-controlled sentences.
