Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell. You also report several key figures and trends accurately, including refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980 and housework dropping from 50 hours to around 15 by 1980. This meets the task well, though some details are less precise: the washing-machine figure in 1980 is about 65%, not “close to 60%,” and vacuum-cleaner ownership rises to 100% by 2000 rather than simply “continuously” reaching that point. The refrigerator starts at about 2%, not 0%. To strengthen the response further, compare the appliance trends more directly and make the overview more specific, noting that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reach full ownership while washing machines remain lower.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the appliance data and housework hours. The sequence through the years is generally easy to follow, and words such as “Initially,” “Then,” and “After this” help signal progression. However, these linking phrases are repeated mechanically, especially at the start of successive sentences, and “After this” does not always make the relationship between information clear. The appliance descriptions would be easier to compare if grouped by shared trends rather than presented as a series of separate accounts. Use a wider range of precise links, such as “by contrast” or “meanwhile,” and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentage,” “declined,” and “remained unchanged,” so the main information is usually understandable. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated general words such as “graph,” “increased,” and “after this.” Several word choices or forms are inaccurate, including “grown up” for a figure rising, “clined” for the vacuum-cleaner trend, and “house work” where “housework” is the standard form. Spelling errors such as “continously,” “hosusework,” and “folloing” also reduce precision. Build a more varied set of accurate trend verbs and check spelling and collocations; this will make the report more concise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can generally understand the comparisons and changes over time. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “the ownership … are increased,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “After this it grown up,” which needs a correctly formed past-tense verb. In “the number hours of hosusework,” the noun phrase is missing “of,” and several sentences omit articles or subjects, as in “in 1920 vacuum cleaner 30%.” Punctuation spacing is also uneven, with missing spaces after commas and full stops. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete sentence patterns, while varying sentence structures carefully.
