Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the broad upward trend in appliance ownership and note that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners become more prevalent, which is relevant to the charts. However, the response gives no specific figures or meaningful comparisons, and the statement that appliance use “decreased” confuses appliance ownership with the separate measure of housework hours. The overview is therefore incomplete and the main features are not adequately reported. The response also contains only 43 words, well below the required 150, leaving most of the task unanswered. To improve, write a clear overview and support it with selected data—for example, refrigerators rising from about 2% to 100%, while weekly housework falls from 50 to 11 hours.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic overall shape: it begins with “Overall” and then refers to the second chart, so the reader can see an attempt to summarise both visuals. However, there are only two short sentences, with no developed sequence of details or comparisons. The link “As we seen in the other chart” is awkward and does not clearly explain how the two trends relate. Organise the report into an overview followed by a paragraph describing appliance ownership and another describing housework hours. Use clear transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to guide the reader, and ensure each sentence adds a distinct piece of information.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a few relevant terms, including “ownership,” “percentage,” and “appliance,” and the reader can infer the general topic. However, the vocabulary range is very limited, and several spelling errors—“ecetrical” and “refrigirator”—make the writing less clear and less professional. “Appliance usage” is also imprecise here: the chart reports the proportion of households owning appliances, not how often they use them. Build a more accurate range with terms such as “household ownership,” “proportion,” “rose,” “remained stable,” and “weekly housework hours.” Check spelling carefully and use the chart’s labels precisely so that your descriptions distinguish ownership from use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You communicate two basic ideas in simple sentence forms, but the grammatical range is narrow and control is inconsistent. In “As we seen in the other chart,” the verb form is incorrect; write “As we can see in the other chart” or, more suitably for a report, “The second chart shows…”. The opening sentence also lacks a clear grammatical structure: “Overall Ownership … increase” needs a subject and correctly formed verb, such as “Overall, ownership … increased.” There are also problems with articles and sentence punctuation, including the unnecessary capitalisation of “Ownership” after the opening word. Practise complete subject–verb structures and accurate past-tense reporting, then combine them with simple comparison clauses.
