Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph represents the data about use of different electrical appliances and the time spend using it for housework at homes between 99 years of gap from 1920 till 2019.
In 1920 Washingmachine was the eletric device that was contributing the most for housework in households with a percentage of 40, it was increased to 60 percent in 1940 and further to 70 percent in 1960, then in the year 1980 the use of washingmachine was decline to just above 60 percent, but again in next 2 decades it was seen that the use of this electrical appliance is increased to 70 percent again and then to just above 70 percent in 2000 and 2019 respectively. Refrigerator as show was the least used electrical appliance in 1920 almost 0 percent because it was never there, but since its development in between somewhere 1920 and 1940 the use of refrigerator was almost 55 percent in 1940 which kept increasing every year and now in 2019 it is being used almost everywhere almost 100 percent, Vaccum cleaner was at 30 percent in 1920 its used kept increasing at home every decade since 2019 now it is also being used almost 100 percent at its peak.
In the second paragraph, the line graph shares the proportion of number of hours spend per week doing household work. In 1920 50 hours were used to be spend on housework but kept decreasing every decade to just above 30 hours per week in 1940 and then to 20 hours in 1960 but in next to decade it almost remain constant like in almost 15 hours in 1980 and in 2020, but today in 2019 it is at just above 10 hours thats the time nowadays is being spent on housework in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework hours fell. You also include several relevant figures, such as washing machines rising from 40% to 70% by 1960 and housework declining from 50 to 20 hours. However, the response does not give a clear, concise overview of the most important features, and some details are inaccurate or confusing. For example, washing-machine ownership reaches about 75% in 2019, not “just above 70 percent in 2000 and 2019 respectively”; the chart shows 70% in 2000 and 75% in 2019. Vacuum-cleaner ownership reaches 100% by 2000, not specifically “since 2019.” The housework figure is 15 hours in both 1980 and 2000, then 11 in 2019. Select and report these key comparisons more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall arrangement: appliance trends are discussed first, followed by housework hours. This helps the reader distinguish the two charts, and time markers such as “In 1920” and “in 1960” provide some chronological progression. However, the first paragraph combines all three appliances in a long, crowded sequence, making comparisons difficult to follow. The second paragraph repeats the 2019 point and includes an unclear reference to “in 2020,” although the chart ends in 2019. Linking words such as “but,” “and,” and “then” are used repeatedly, sometimes creating run-on sentences. Use separate, focused sentences and group the appliance trends by their shared pattern—for example, the appliances that reached full ownership—while keeping the timeline consistent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “electrical appliance,” “percentage,” “increased,” and “decreasing,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. “The time spend using it” does not clearly describe hours devoted to housework, while “the use of refrigerator” is less precise than describing household ownership. There are also noticeable spelling and form errors, including “Washingmachine,” “eletric,” and “Vaccum.” Aim for accurate chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “weekly housework hours fell.” Avoid unsupported claims such as the refrigerator being “never there”; report the near-zero figure instead.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences and use past-tense forms to describe changes, but complex sentences are often faulty and errors occur frequently enough to make some passages difficult to read. For example, “it was increased to 60 percent” uses an incorrect passive form, and “the use of washingmachine was decline” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “Refrigerator as show…” contains several clauses joined without clear punctuation, while “50 hours were used to be spend” has problems with both verb construction and agreement. Tense also shifts between past and present when describing the historical data. Practise concise past-tense sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and use full stops to separate each appliance’s trend.
