Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad contrast: appliance ownership generally increased, while housework time fell. You also include several relevant figures, such as refrigerator ownership rising from about 2% to 100% and housework dropping from 50 hours to 20 by 1960. However, the account is only partial and some key trends are unclear or inaccurate. For example, the refrigerator reached 90% in 1960 and 100% in 1980, not 90% in 1960 followed by an unclear sequence; washing-machine ownership peaked at 75% in 2019, rather than 85%; and the final housework figure of 11 hours is not reported. The overview also says ownership rose rapidly without noting that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reached full ownership. Select the main stages and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an opening, an overview and separate discussion of appliance ownership and housework, so there is some basic organisation. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow, especially in the refrigerator and washing-machine sentences, where several years and figures are compressed together. Connectors such as “after this,” “whereas” and “before” are sometimes used inaccurately or without clear links, and the final sentence stops before completing the trend. The paragraphing does not fully compensate for these problems, and references such as “this” are not always clear. Group the appliance trends into a clear sequence, then describe the housework line in a complete paragraph, using one comparison or time period per sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ownership,” “decreased,” “remained consistent” and “rose rapidly,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the report harder to understand: “oenership,” “hosehold,” “vaccum” and “reamin.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “hours spent of housework” and “ownership of washing machine.” Repeated use of “rose” and “reached” limits precision, while “suddenly drop” does not describe the modest decline particularly well. Aim for accurate trend vocabulary and collocations, such as “the proportion of households owning a washing machine” and “fell slightly,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex forms, including the overview contrast with “whereas” and time clauses such as “before fell down.” However, many sentences contain errors in tense, agreement, articles or sentence construction, and these sometimes make the intended comparisons difficult to follow. For example, “almost no hosehold owning a refrigerator” lacks a finite verb, while “100% and reamin consistent at 2000 between 2019” is not a complete, clear sentence. The final clause, “before fell down 1,” is also unfinished. Use complete past-tense sentences to describe the historical data, check subject–verb structure, and separate long sequences of figures with full stops.
