Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both charts and give a relevant overview: appliance ownership generally increased, while housework time declined. Several key comparisons are accurately selected, including washing machines and vacuum cleaners both reaching 70% in 1960, and refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reaching full ownership by the end of the period. However, some details are unclear or imprecise. The refrigerator is described as rising from 0% to 90% in 1980, although it was already about 2% in 1920 and reached 90% in 1960; it reached 100% in 1980. The final housework figure is about 11 hours, not simply 10. Develop the overview and report these stages more precisely to make the account of the data consistently clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership and a final paragraph on housework. This gives the reader a basic route through both charts. However, progression within the appliance paragraph is sometimes difficult to follow because several years and series are compressed into long, loosely connected statements. Transitions such as “whereas” and “on other side” are not always used to show a clear contrast, and the housework figures are presented in a crowded sequence. Grouping the appliance trends more systematically—for example, refrigerators and vacuum cleaners together, then washing machines—and using clear links between comparisons would improve cohesion and make the organisation more effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “ownership,” “reached,” “remained stable” and “decreased,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward. For example, “hours spent of housework” and “fell down” are not natural ways to describe these trends, while “dropdown” is unsuitable in this context. Spelling errors such as “oenership,” “vaccum” and “berfore” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data, and check spelling carefully; this will help you express comparisons and changes more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control of sentence structure and grammatical forms is inconsistent. The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical construction, and “40% of ownership of washing machine in 1920” is a fragment rather than a complete comparison. There are also problems with articles and prepositions, as in “in household” and “from 1960 to 2019,” and punctuation and capitalisation are unreliable after full stops. Some sentences combine several figures without clear grammatical links. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences and use a consistent past-tense pattern when reporting the historical data.
