Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the broad topic and gives some figures from 1920, including 40% for washing machines and 30% for vacuum cleaners. However, it does not provide a complete summary: the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, and there is no account of the major changes through 2019 or of the decline in housework hours. The overview is also inaccurate: refrigerators and vacuum cleaners did not remain the highest throughout, since washing-machine ownership was highest in 1920, and the refrigerator figure was about 2%, not 0%. The response contains 104 words, below the required 150, which leaves the task substantially incomplete. To improve, report the main trends across the period and compare the appliance figures with the fall in housework.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and phrases such as “Overall” and “According to given graph” signal the intended stages. However, progression is very limited because the response ends during “the percentage of households who was owner of” and does not develop the later years or the housework data. The relationship between the overview and the details is also unclear: the overview makes a broad claim about the highest and lowest ownership, while the next paragraph only gives 1920 figures. Use complete paragraphs with a clear sequence—overview first, then grouped comparisons—and ensure each paragraph is finished and connected to the task’s two measures.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “households,” “owner,” and “housework,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “equiqements,” “Referigerator,” “housholds,” and “vacum cleaner” make key chart labels difficult to read. “Pie chart” is also an inaccurate label for the visual, and “highest percentage recorded who are owner” is an awkward collocation. Use accurate terms such as “line graph,” “ownership,” and “the proportion of households with a refrigerator.” Careful spelling of the appliance names and more precise trend vocabulary would make the report clearer and more appropriate for an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few sentence forms, including an introductory clause and an overview beginning “Overall, it can be seen that…”. However, grammatical control is uneven. The opening combines incompatible structures in “illustrates that … and show that how much time spent,” while “households who was owner” has incorrect agreement and an incomplete grammatical pattern. Articles and plural forms are also missing or inconsistent in phrases such as “the 0% hoseholds were the owner” and “40% household.” The final sentence is unfinished, so it cannot communicate a complete comparison. Practise forming clear clauses such as “The graph shows the proportion of households that owned each appliance” and check subject–verb agreement, articles and plural nouns before submitting.
