Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad trends correctly: appliance ownership generally rose, while time spent on housework fell. You also give two accurate starting figures, with washing machines at 40% and vacuum cleaners at 30%. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it ends mid-sentence at “Between 1950 to 2019 ownership of re” and provides no usable account of later figures or comparisons. The claim that refrigerator ownership was “absent” in 1920 is also inaccurate; the chart shows about 2%. The overview is relevant but too general, and the response is 92 words, below the required 150. To improve, complete the report and select key stages, including refrigerators reaching full ownership and housework falling from 50 to 11 hours.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. The overview also signals the two main trends, giving the reader a starting point. However, progression breaks down because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, leaving the information incomplete and the ending abrupt. The link “And” at the start of the second overview sentence is not effective, and the detail paragraph does not develop a clear sequence of comparisons. Use complete paragraphs and organise details chronologically or by grouping appliance trends together, then compare them with housework hours. Linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “By 2019” would help clarify relationships without relying on isolated connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “ownership,” “electrical appliances,” and “decreased steadily,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make reading less smooth: “ownerhip,” “numer,” “appliences,” “houss,” “vaccum,” and “referigerator.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “the ratio of all three electrical appliances ownership” and “The ownership of refrigerator absent.” Prefer precise collocations such as “the proportion of households owning appliances” and “refrigerator ownership was approximately 2%.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard chart-description phrases would make the limited vocabulary more effective and reduce reader effort.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few sentence forms, including the introductory clause “The given line graph illustrates…” and the overview beginning “Overall, it can be seen…”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “illustrates that changes the percentage” lacks a grammatical structure, while “40% individuals owned washing machine” is missing necessary articles and a suitable preposition. “The ownership of refrigerator absent” has no finite verb, and the final sentence is incomplete. The overview also begins a sentence with “And,” creating a weak connection. Practise complete subject–verb structures, articles, and accurate past-tense reporting, then check that every sentence has a clear ending.
