Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line charts illustrates the changes in ownership of the electronic appliances and the hours spent in household works in one country between 1920 and 2019. Overall, refrigerator was the highest among all other appliances, whereas the hours spend in household work per week have seen a dropped by the timeframe.
In 1920, appliances like washing machine were the highest used by 40%, vacuum cleaner was the second highest with 30% in use. Whereas, the useage of refrigerator was very low with 1%. By 1960, the usage of refrigerator had a siginificant rise by 90% in compare to it washing machine declined and dropped below 70%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the broad topic and give a relevant overall comparison: refrigerator ownership rises, while time spent on housework falls. You also report some early figures, including washing machines at 40% and vacuum cleaners at 30% in 1920. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it stops mid-sentence at “In 2019, the”, leaving the later trends and the housework figures largely unreported. The statement that washing-machine ownership “declined and dropped below 70%” by 1960 is inaccurate; it was about 70% then, after rising from 1940. The response is also 41 words below the required minimum. To improve, complete the summary and cover the main developments across the period, including the near-universal ownership of refrigerators and vacuum cleaners and the fall in housework hours.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: an opening overview is followed by a paragraph about 1920 and 1960, and time markers such as “In 1920” and “By 1960” help the reader follow the chronology. However, there is no clear overall progression because the final paragraph begins “In 2019” and then ends abruptly. The comparison introduced with “Whereas” is also awkwardly attached to the preceding sentence, and the response does not group the appliance trends and housework trend into a complete account. Use complete paragraphs with a clear overview, then organise the key comparisons by period or by trend. Linking phrases should connect complete ideas rather than leave contrasts hanging.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership”, “appliances”, “usage” and “significant rise”, so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. “Electronic appliances” is less suitable than “electrical appliances”, while “household works” and “hours spend in household work” are unnatural expressions; use “housework” or “time spent doing housework”. There are also spelling errors in “useage” and “siginificant”, and “highest used” does not express the intended comparison naturally. Aim for precise chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “rose to”, “fell to” or “remained stable”. This would make comparisons clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer structures, including “Overall…” and the contrast beginning “Whereas”, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. In “The line charts illustrates”, the plural subject requires “illustrate”; “the hours spend” needs a participle form, “spent”; and “have seen a dropped” has an incorrect verb pattern. The sentence “By 1960, the usage of refrigerator had a significant rise by 90% in compare to it washing machine…” contains several problems with articles, verb choice and sentence construction, making the comparison difficult to follow. The final fragment, “In 2019, the”, is incomplete. Practise accurate simple past forms for historical data and build comparisons as complete sentences, for example, “Refrigerator ownership rose to 90%, while washing-machine ownership remained at about 70%.”
