Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the overall direction correctly: ownership of the appliances generally rose, while housework time fell. You also report several relevant figures, including vacuum-cleaner ownership at 30% in 1920 and washing-machine ownership at 75% in 2019. However, coverage is partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear. Refrigerator ownership was about 2% in 1920, not 0%, and reached 100% by 1980; the response does not report this important endpoint. The housework figure is hours, not a percentage, and it declined from 50 to 11 hours, rather than fluctuating after 1980. The overview is useful but broad, and the main comparisons need clearer, more accurate support. The response meets the required length; 11 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: the first main paragraph discusses appliance ownership, the next turns to housework, and a final sentence gives an overall summary. This helps readers recognise the two chart topics. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because several figures and trends are packed into long, loosely connected sentences. Repeated use of “Secondly” does not clearly signal the relationship between points, and phrases such as “according to the analysis” add little connection. The sequence of years is sometimes unclear, particularly in the housework paragraph. Use separate sentences to compare appliances, group related trends, and use precise links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” only where they express a real relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “ownership,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing data. “The percentage of refrigerator” and “the number of vacuum cleaner” do not name the measured category clearly, while “house activity” is an imprecise substitute for housework. Repetition of “percentage” also leads to a factual mismatch when describing hours. Aim for accurate collocations such as “the proportion of households owning a refrigerator” and “hours spent on housework.” More varied verbs for trends and comparisons would make the report clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine information using clauses, for example, “the number of hours … was 50 … and it gets decreased,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction appear in “The given charts illustrates” and “40 percentage of washing machine which households it.” Tense shifts between past reporting and present forms, as in “it gets decreased,” also make the timeline less controlled. Articles and plural forms are often missing, and punctuation is unreliable, with full stops and commas placed awkwardly around “respectively.” These problems sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to understand. Build a reliable base with complete past-tense sentences, then add comparisons using accurately formed clauses.
