Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main broad patterns: appliance ownership generally rises, while weekly housework declines. You also include several relevant figures, such as 50 hours in 1920, 20 in 1960, and refrigerator ownership at about 55% in 1940. However, coverage is incomplete and some details are inaccurate or unfinished. The washing-machine figure is given as about 65% in 2019, rather than approximately 75%, and the response says refrigerator ownership was zero in 1920, although it was about 2%. The vacuum-cleaner account stops around 2000 and the final comparison is cut off. The overview is relevant, but the key trends and endpoints need to be reported more consistently and completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There are some useful organisational signals, including “Overall,” “However,” and “Similarly,” and the response attempts to separate the overview from details. Nevertheless, the information is not arranged coherently: the opening begins mid-description, then the housework paragraph appears before the introduction and overview, which are placed later. This disrupts the reader’s understanding of the report. The final sentence is incomplete (“as the number of people”), leaving the comparison unresolved, and references such as “the number” are sometimes unclear. Use a conventional sequence—introduction, overview, then grouped details—and ensure each paragraph develops one clear comparison. Check that every sentence is complete and that linking words accurately show the relationship between figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “ownership,” “upward trend,” “substantial growth,” and “decline.” This gives you a basic range for describing changes. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “contributed at around 65%,” “a significant rose,” “reached at around 95%,” and “showed interest in the usage of Refrigerator.” The repeated use of “number” also makes the description imprecise when you mean a proportion or percentage. Spelling errors, including “vaccum” and “elctrical,” are noticeable. Aim for precise chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…” and use standard spellings consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, for example, “However there was a significant rose…” and “From 1980 to 2019, there was a slight decrease…”. However, errors are frequent, and some sentence structures are incomplete or difficult to follow. The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure, while the final sentence is unfinished. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “a significant rose” and “the number of hours people spend… it experienced a decline trend.” Tense and phrasing are not consistently controlled when describing past data. Practise complete past-tense sentences with a clear subject and verb, and proofread each sentence for agreement and punctuation.
