Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall patterns: refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership rose, while time spent on housework fell. You also include relevant figures for housework at the start and end, and describe the washing-machine trend as fluctuating. However, some details are inaccurate or too general: refrigerators were used by about 2% of households in 1920, not by “no one,” and washing-machine ownership ended at about 75%, rather than simply being “more than before.” The overview would be stronger if it compared the appliances’ endpoints and noted that refrigerators reached full ownership by 1980, while vacuum cleaners did so by 2000. The response covers the task, but some comparisons and data are less fully reported than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction, a brief overview, discussion of appliance ownership, and a final point about housework hours. This makes the main message easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “but,” and “As” help connect ideas, although the progression within the appliance paragraph is sometimes loose: several trends are placed together without a clear comparison or chronological structure. The final sentence also repeats the decline already mentioned in the overview rather than adding a distinct comparison. Use separate, logically grouped paragraphs for appliance trends and housework, and connect figures with clear time markers such as “by 1980” and “thereafter.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “increased,” “reduced sharply,” and “surged,” so the main trends are understandable. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a chart: “utilization” and “use” are repeated, “time of work” is unclear, and “made a lot of progress” is not a precise way to describe appliance ownership. Spelling errors such as “vaccum” and “akmost” also reduce accuracy. Aim for concise, conventional chart language and vary expressions for proportions and trends, for example “the proportion of households owning…” and “rose steadily.” This would make the description more precise and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “but” and a cause-and-effect opening with “As.” The meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “amount of time spent in doing housework” has an awkward grammatical pattern, and “Vacuum cleaners was” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “Because in 1920” is a fragment, while “these hours decreased down to” has an unnecessary particle and an unclear reference. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent article use. Practise complete sentence structures, agreement, and accurate clause linking while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
