Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and identify the main overall patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while housework hours fell. Several key figures are accurately reported, including washing machines at 40% in 1920 and 70% in 1960, refrigerators reaching 100% in 1980, and housework declining to about 20 hours in 1960. The overview also notes that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners ended at the same level. Some details, however, are imprecise or incomplete: the refrigerator starts at about 2%, not merely “the lowest proportion,” and the final washing-machine figure is about 75%, rather than just “over 70%.” The overview’s claim that washing machines were the highest at the beginning is inaccurate; they were highest, but the comparison should be stated clearly. More precise comparisons and a fuller summary of the contrasting trends would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph describing appliance ownership, a paragraph on housework, and a concluding overview. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Meanwhile,” “In contrast,” and “After that” help signal comparisons and changes over time. However, the overview appears at the end rather than near the beginning, and some transitions are repetitive or awkward, particularly the repeated use of “After that” and “However.” The appliance paragraph also moves between series without consistently grouping the most useful comparisons. Place a concise overview immediately after the introduction, then organise the details into clear comparisons—for example, the two appliances that reached full ownership and the washing-machine fluctuations. This would make progression more deliberate and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary for this task, including “rose gradually,” “declined sharply,” “reached,” and “stabilized,” so the main changes are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “accounted for” and “proportion.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “percentage of electronic appliance” does not fit the chart, “represented 100%” is awkward for a data point, and “the trend followed the decline pattern” is unnecessarily vague. Spelling errors such as “vaccum,” “stablized,” and “hourse” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language such as “the share of households owning…” and “stood at,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “whereas” in effect through contrast, and “after that.” Most of the intended meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “households who has” has an agreement and relative-pronoun problem, while “the was a dramatically rise” contains errors in article use and word form. Verb forms are also inconsistent in “it was stay at 100%” and “it was represent the lowest proportion.” Punctuation is sometimes weak where clauses run together, as in the refrigerator sentence beginning “and after that.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and separate long sentences with appropriate punctuation. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentence forms more reliable.
