Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The first line graph illustrates the percentage of households with electrical appliances, namely, washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner between 1920 to 2019, while the second line graph presents the number of hours of housework consumed per week by each household per week in the 1920 to 2019.
Overall, it was seen that all the households rose over the period, whereas refrigerator and vacuum cleaner showed a prominant increase. In the use of washing machine slight fluctuation had seen. While, in number of hour per week the graph presented visible fall over the year.
In 1920, usuage of refrigerator was minimum but over the period it drastically increased from zero to reaching a peak 100. The vacuum cleaner started with 30% and went up to maximum just like refrigerator. Washing machine started with 40% and gradually shoot up to just above 70%.
In terms of washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning hours per week from 1920 to 2019. Initially, per week hours were started with 50 in 1920 and gradually fall down to 10 hours per week until 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and identify the broad patterns: appliance ownership generally increased, while weekly housework time declined. The overview also notes the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner’s strong growth, which selects relevant features. Several details, however, are incomplete or imprecise. Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% to 100%, not from zero, and the washing-machine trend was not simply a gradual rise: it dipped from 70% in 1960 to 65% in 1980 before recovering. The statement that “all the households rose” is unclear, and the housework figure fell to about 11 hours, rather than 10. To strengthen the response, compare key stages and include the notable plateau in housework hours between 1980 and 2000.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for appliance ownership and housework. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In terms of” signal shifts. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by unclear or awkward links. “While, in number of hour per week” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence, and the final paragraph begins with a fragment-like introductory phrase before presenting the data. Some comparisons are also left implicit, so the reader must infer how the appliance trends relate. Use clear topic sentences and connect figures with precise transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “peak,” “fluctuation,” and “gradually,” and the main trends remain understandable. There is some attempt to vary wording, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing data. “Households rose” does not express the intended increase in appliance ownership, while “hours of housework consumed” and “washing clothes … hours” are awkward collocations. Spelling errors such as “prominant” and “usuage” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional phrases such as “the proportion of households owning” an appliance and “time spent on housework.” Check spelling and avoid using dramatic terms such as “shoot up” when a neutral description is more suitable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a time clause beginning “while.” However, control is inconsistent, and several errors make the relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “In the use of washing machine slight fluctuation had seen” has an incorrect verb construction and missing article; “the graph presented visible fall” also needs an article and a more suitable verb form. The opening sentence repeats “per week,” and “Initially, per week hours were started” uses an incorrect passive construction. Practise forming accurate comparisons and trend sentences, for example, “Housework time fell from 50 hours in 1920 to 11 in 2019.” Proofread articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
