Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the broad contrast: appliance ownership increased overall, while time spent on housework fell. However, the response reports almost none of the chart’s specific information, so the main features are only minimally covered. It also overgeneralises that all three appliance lines rose “quite steadily”: washing-machine ownership dipped from about 70% in 1960 to 65% in 1980, while refrigerators reached 100% by 1980 and then levelled off. The housework figure fell from 50 to 11 hours per week. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words. To develop the summary, include an overview and select key figures and comparisons, including the different paths of the three appliances.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, understandable order: it introduces the charts, then comments on appliance ownership and housework. The contrast signalled by “Talking about household chores” helps the reader follow the shift in topic. However, the answer is only two short paragraphs, with no developed progression from an overview to supporting details; there are no specific figures to organise or compare. The opening sentence also combines both subjects without clearly distinguishing the two charts. Build a clearer structure with an introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs grouped by trend. Use linking expressions to show comparisons and changes over time, rather than relying on a single topic shift.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “appliances,” “household chores,” “increase,” and “decreased,” and the general meaning is clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or informal for an academic chart summary. “Changes in owners of household appliances” refers to people who own the appliances rather than the proportion of households owning them; “ownership” or “the percentage of households with” is more accurate. “Quiet steadily” appears to be a misspelling of “quite steadily,” and “way less time” is conversational. “Graph rose” is also an imprecise description of a data trend. Use precise terms such as “rose,” “declined,” “levelled off,” and “housework hours.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes a simple introductory sentence and a more complex clause beginning “which shows,” so there is some variety, and the main message remains understandable. However, control is uneven. In “between 1920 to 2019,” the time expression should be “between 1920 and 2019” or “from 1920 to 2019.” The phrase “people spent in doing chores” has an unnecessary preposition; write “spent doing chores.” There are also punctuation and spacing problems in “As observed ,there,” and the comma splice in “the graph has quite decreased which shows” should be corrected by adding punctuation or restructuring the sentence. Aim for accurate comparisons and a wider range of well-controlled sentences.
