Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graphs compares percentages of different electrical appliances includes washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner that's ownership changes between 1920 and 2019 and also graph show how much amount of time spend by household while doing house work in one country.

Overall, all the electrical appliances ownership have a increasing trend throughout the years from 1920 to 2019. But washing machine have slightly decrease in ownership after 1960 to 1980 after that ownership again increase. Moreover, time spent on appliances vy household to do housework per week were decrease dramatically from 50 hours per week at start and only 10 hours per week in 2019.

In detail, in first four decades will have increasing trend, in which refrigerator start with lowest ownership of only 2% of household and at the end of 1960 with highest ownership of 90% while washing machine and vacuum cleaner start with 40% and 30% respectively and ended up on same note in 1960 of 70%. However, after that washing maching have decrease in household ownership for next 20 years and vacuum cleaner have almost 90% and refrigerator have reach their maximum household ownership of 100% in 1980. Moreover, at the end of 2019 vacuum cleaner have maximum percentage of 100% while washing machine ends with slightly less ownership compares to other two of 85% in 2019.

If we talk about use of appliances per week in hours were decrease massively between 1920 to 1960 from 50 hours to 20 hours, after that decrease slowly at ends with 10 hours per week in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both graphs and provide a clear overview: appliance ownership generally rises, while weekly housework time falls. You also identify useful comparisons, including the refrigerator’s rapid growth and the washing machine’s dip between 1960 and 1980. Most reported figures are grounded in the chart, but there are notable inaccuracies: washing-machine ownership in 2019 is about 75%, not 85%, and housework falls to about 11 hours, rather than 10. The claim that all appliances increase throughout is also too broad because the washing-machine figure declines from 1960 to 1980. To strengthen the response, check endpoint values carefully and make the overview precise about the one temporary decline and the appliances that reach full ownership.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to appliance details and then housework hours. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and transitions such as “However” and “Moreover” help signal comparisons. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “in first four decades will have increasing trend” and “If we talk about use of appliances per week in hours,” which makes the final comparison harder to follow. The appliance paragraph also packs several years and series into long sentences. For stronger progression, group the appliance trends by meaningful stages, then give the housework trend its own concise paragraph, using clear references and fewer repeated transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “household,” “dramatically,” and “maximum,” so the main trends can be understood. However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “ownership,” “increase,” and “decrease,” and several combinations are unnatural: “ownership changes,” “ended up on same note,” and “use of appliances per week in hours.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “maching” and “vy,” which reduce precision. Aim for more accurate chart language and collocations, such as “the proportion of households owning,” “rose steadily,” “fell slightly,” and “levelled off.” This would make comparisons more concise and natural without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of sentence forms, including contrast and time clauses, but control is inconsistent. Errors appear in basic sentence construction and agreement: “The line graphs compares” should be “The line graphs compare,” while “graph show” needs “the graph shows.” Verb forms are often faulty, as in “time spend” and “were decrease,” and some clauses lack a clear grammatical structure, such as “in first four decades will have increasing trend.” Articles and prepositions are also frequently missing or misplaced. These problems sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check subject–verb agreement and use past-tense verbs consistently when describing the historical data.
