Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you include several relevant figures. However, some key data are inaccurate: refrigerators were about 2% in 1920, not 0%, and reached 100% by 1980, remaining there through 2019; the stated 90% peak in 2000 and 2019 is incorrect. Vacuum-cleaner ownership began at about 30%, not 0%, and rose to 100% by 2000. The washing-machine trend is partly reported, but its later rise is omitted. The housework figure falls from 50 to about 11 hours, rather than 10. A clearer overview of the main patterns and more accurate selection of comparisons would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, discusses appliances in separate sections, and ends with a conclusion. The contrast between appliance ownership and housework time also gives the report a basic direction. However, progression is not consistently clear, and the opening repeats the task in two sentences without establishing the main overview. Connectors such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “Although” are sometimes used mechanically or do not express the relationship between ideas accurately. The appliance details are not grouped or compared systematically, and the final sentence merely restates a general change. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, using linking words only where they clarify the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “decline,” “increase,” and “peak,” so the reader can generally identify the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “use of appliances,” “work time spend on households,” and “show upward graph.” Spelling errors, including “usee,” “slighlty,” and “vaccum,” also reduce precision. Repeated reliance on “graph” and “percentage” makes the description less flexible. Build a more accurate set of trend expressions and appliance-related collocations, for example “ownership rose,” “reached a plateau,” and “hours spent on housework.” Check spelling carefully, especially for key chart terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Although, vacuum cleaner show…” and “In addition, the number of housework per hours illustrate decline…”. However, these attempts often contain errors that make the relationships or meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “time spend,” “the graph increases and reached,” and “washing machine … was 40% … and show,” where verb forms and tense are not controlled. Articles, plurals, and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “in duration of 1920 to 2019” and the missing space after the full stop in “1940.After.” Use past-tense verbs consistently for the historical data, check subject–verb agreement, and practise accurate complex sentences before adding more clauses.
