Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You provide a clear overview of the main patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell. You also identify the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner reaching full household coverage by the end. Several figures and comparisons, however, are inaccurate or incomplete. The chart shows vacuum-cleaner ownership at about 30% in 1920, not 40%, and refrigerator ownership at about 2%, rather than 0%. The washing-machine figure dips to about 65% in 1980 before rising, a useful detail your account only refers to vaguely as “some decline.” You omit the vacuum cleaner’s 2000 milestone and the housework figure of 15 hours in both 1980 and 2000. More precise reporting and fuller coverage of these stages would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, a summary of the main trends, and separate detail paragraphs for appliance ownership and housework. This makes the information easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical or creates sentence fragments, particularly “While in 1960…” and “And at the end of the period…”. The appliance paragraph also moves through three series without consistently comparing their trajectories, and the housework paragraph jumps from 1960 directly to the endpoint. Use complete sentences and clearer transitions to connect intermediate years and comparisons—for example, contrast the refrigerator’s rapid rise with the washing machine’s temporary decline. This would make progression more fluent and cohesion less dependent on repeated time markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “stable,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at less common wording, such as “proprietorship” and “surpassed,” but these are not always natural in this context: “ownership” or “household ownership” is more idiomatic for appliance data. “Duration of time” is unnecessarily wordy, and “became stable” is less precise than saying ownership “levelled off” or “remained at 100%.” Spelling errors in “vacum” and “wasing” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than replacing familiar words with formal-sounding alternatives; this will improve flexibility and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple sentences and some more complex forms, including the contrast in “After facing some decline, it became about 74% in 2019.” Most sentences communicate the intended trends, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the number hours” is missing “of,” and “the number of hours … were 50” has subject–verb disagreement; use “was 50.” The construction “In 1920, there was 0% ownership” is also awkwardly formed, while “While in 1960…” is an incomplete dependent clause. Several sentences begin with “And” after a full stop, which weakens punctuation and sentence control. Check clause completeness, agreement, and article/preposition patterns, while continuing to vary sentence structures.
