Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad subject and report several relevant trends, including the rise in vacuum-cleaner ownership and the fall in weekly housework. However, the response only partly covers the task because the overview is unclear and some key information is inaccurate or incomplete. The statement that refrigerator ownership rises “from zero to hundred” does not match the chart: it starts at about 2%, reaches 100% by 1980, and then remains there. The opening overview also refers to “refrigerator doing work,” rather than summarising the main pattern across all series. You give useful detail for washing machines, but should compare the appliance trends with the sharp decline in housework hours and report the refrigerator’s early rise more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a general statement, and then details about washing machines, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, and housework hours. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is not consistently clear, and the overview does not effectively guide the detail paragraphs. Linking phrases such as “Turning towards the details” and “Finally” are used, but the appliance descriptions largely read as separate, repetitive accounts rather than a connected comparison. The long washing-machine sentence also makes several changes difficult to follow. Group the two appliances that reach full ownership together, then contrast them with washing machines and the decline in housework time; use clear references and shorter sentences to improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “decline,” “increase,” “remained constant,” and “peak,” which helps communicate basic trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward, such as “refrigerator doing work,” “washing machine spent 40 percent of housework,” and “its ratio.” Repetition of “increase” and “percentage” also limits precision. There are spelling errors, including “prcentage,” and some phrases are not natural descriptions of chart data. Aim to use accurate terms such as “household ownership,” “the proportion of households,” and “hours spent on housework,” and vary trend language with “rose,” “levelled off,” and “fell.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to combine information in longer sentences, particularly in the washing-machine description, and uses some past-tense forms to report historical data. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and complex sentences are often difficult to control. For example, “washing machine spent 40 percent of housework in 1920” has an unclear grammatical relationship, while “its ratio has been increased” uses an unsuitable passive construction. There are also problems with articles and sentence structure in “from 1920 to till 2019,” and punctuation is missing where long clauses run together. Use straightforward past-tense clauses, such as “Ownership rose from 40% to 60%,” and check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
