Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the two broad subjects and mention some relevant trends, including the refrigerator reaching 100% and vacuum-cleaner ownership rising. However, the overview contains a major reversal: housework hours decreased, not increased. Several details are also inaccurate or incomplete: washing-machine ownership did not remain constant from 1980 to 2019, and the vacuum cleaner reached 100% by 2000 rather than 90%. The response gives little information about the housework figures and ends mid-sentence, so the task is only minimally covered. It is also below the required 150 words: the response contains 142 words, with 18 words copied from the prompt excluded. To improve, give a clear overview of the main opposing trends and support it with accurate comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and the time sequence is sometimes clear through phrases such as “In 1920” and “till 1960.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview combines several trends in one sentence, and the final paragraph repeats the washing-machine information already given before stopping at “and then agins.” Connections between ideas are often unclear, while commas and spacing do not reliably separate clauses. Grouping the appliance trends together and giving housework its own comparison would create a clearer progression. Use complete paragraphs and link each comparison explicitly, rather than repeating information or leaving a point unfinished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ownership,” “proportion of households,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended trends. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “the highest spending households,” “consistent rise,” and “large amount of increase.” “Spending hours on households housework” also makes the meaning difficult to interpret. There are spelling errors, including “adidtion” and “agins,” and repeated use of “remain constant” and “till” limits variety. Choose precise chart language such as “the share of households owning” and “the number of hours spent on housework,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts longer sentences using “and,” “then” and “which,” but these are often faulty, and control of basic sentence forms is inconsistent. For example, “Spending hours on households housework has been increased” has an incorrect verb construction, while “Washing machine began from 40% … had rose steadily” combines incompatible verb forms and omits necessary grammatical elements. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent, and several sentences lack clear punctuation or a complete ending. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships between figures difficult to understand. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and simple comparison structures first, then combine them with clauses only when the grammar remains clear.
