Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and provide a relevant overview: appliance ownership generally rose, while time spent on housework fell. Several key figures are reported accurately, including washing machines at 40% and vacuum cleaners at about 30% in 1920, and the refrigerator reaching 100% by 1980. The housework figures for 1920, 1940 and 1960 are also broadly correct, although these are hours, not percentages. Some details are unclear or inaccurate: the refrigerator was not negligible in 1940 (about 55%), and the final housework figure is about 11 hours, rather than 10%. The washing-machine trend is described only as fluctuating, without explaining its slight dip and later recovery. More precise comparisons and coverage of the final values would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership and a final paragraph on housework. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and transitions such as “Overall,” “In addition” and “Furthermore” help signal shifts. However, some links are mechanical or do not clearly express the relationship between ideas. For example, “However” introduces the 1960 refrigerator figure without a clear contrast, and “Moreover” in the overview adds a point rather than showing how it relates to the first. The appliance paragraph also moves quickly between years and devices, making comparisons harder to follow. Grouping the appliance trends more systematically and using clearer references would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “ownership,” “decreased significantly” and “fluctuated,” and the reader can generally identify the trends you intend to describe. However, the range and control are uneven, with several spelling and word-choice errors that make parts difficult to interpret: “vaccum,” “signifi,” “commanly,” “slighly” and “countinue deline.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “ownership of three appliances surged” and “refrigerator could be negligible to use by everyone.” Choose standard collocations such as “the proportion of households owning appliances” and “refrigerator ownership rose to almost universal levels.” Take care to distinguish “hours” from “percent,” and proofread spelling and word forms so that your otherwise relevant vocabulary communicates the data precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the overview sentence beginning “Moreover” and the relative clause “which dropped…”. Some sentences communicate the main trend, but grammatical errors recur and sometimes make relationships unclear. Examples include “percentage of owned three electrical devices,” “washing machine was 40%,” and “household spend 50% hours,” where articles, sentence structure and verb forms need attention. There are also problems with agreement and tense, as in “washing machine have fluctuated trend” and “almost everyone has.” Aim for a reliable basic pattern such as “The proportion of households with washing machines was 40%” and “households spent 50 hours per week on housework.” More accurate sentence construction and a wider range of controlled clauses would improve clarity.
