Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad relationship shown: appliance ownership generally rose while housework time fell, and you include several relevant figures, such as refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980 and housework dropping to about 15 hours. However, the response only partly summarises the main features. There is no clearly separated overview, and the opening claim that there were “zero to no purchases” in 1920 is inaccurate: washing machines were at 40%, vacuum cleaners at 30%, and refrigerators at about 2%. Some later details are also confused—for example, the 100% figure in 1980 applies to refrigerators, not washing machines. Focus on accurate comparisons and state the overall trends clearly before selecting key data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response follows the years in chronological order, which gives the reader a basic route through the information, and words such as “similarly,” “however” and “therefore” attempt to connect ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because most of the report is one long, loosely connected paragraph, with several years and appliance trends crowded into individual sentences. Some links are unclear, as in “same goes for washing machine 100% of households had refrigerators,” where the relationship between the two claims is hard to interpret. Organise the report into a short introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs. Use linking expressions to show comparisons and changes, rather than relying mainly on chronological transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “demand,” “remained” and “reduced,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or repetitive. “Purchases” and “buying” describe consumer actions, whereas the chart reports household ownership; “demand” is not directly measured. Phrases such as “the most necessity” and “could most of the work on their own” are awkward and make the intended meaning less clear. Spelling errors, including “vaccum,” “neccesity” and “househod,” also reduce accuracy. Build a set of precise trend and comparison phrases, and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine several ideas using clauses and time expressions, but sentence control is inconsistent. Many sentences run on, particularly the sentence beginning “in the year 1980,” which joins several claims without clear punctuation or grammatical boundaries. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement and verb forms: “percentage … were the same” should use a singular verb, while “hours of housework reduced” needs a more complete construction such as “the number of hours … fell.” Capitalisation and spacing around punctuation are also inconsistent. Use shorter, complete sentences to report each comparison, then practise combining them with accurate subordinate clauses. This will make the information easier to understand.
