Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad trends: refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership rose, while weekly housework hours fell. However, the response only partially reports the chart’s key information, and the overview is unclear. The refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and reached 100% by 1980, rather than 2000. Washing-machine ownership did not start in 1930; it rose from 40% in 1920 to 70% in 1960, dipped slightly in 1980, then increased. The claim that washing machines had the minimum percentage overall is not supported, since refrigerators began much lower. Include a clearer overview comparing the appliance trends with the decline in housework, and select accurate figures to support it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from appliance ownership to housework hours and then an overall statement. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking expressions such as “moreover” and “Moving ahead” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within the appliance paragraph is difficult to follow, and the final overview does not clearly summarise the main trends. Several connectors are used mechanically or do not express a clear relationship, while repeated “it can be noticed” phrasing makes the account less direct. Group the appliance comparisons in a logical order, then describe housework hours, and finish with a concise overview that accurately brings the main patterns together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of descriptive language, including “depicted,” “eye catching feature,” and “inferred,” and the reader can generally understand the topic. However, vocabulary is often imprecise or unnatural for describing data. Phrases such as “started from 0 percentage of household,” “it was down year by year,” and “maximum percentage of refrigerator” do not express the intended comparisons clearly. There are also spelling and form errors, including “statstical,” and repeated use of “increased” limits variety. Use standard chart language such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “declined,” and “reached a plateau,” while checking spelling and choosing accurate nouns such as “ownership” or “proportion of households.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas in longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “the refrigerator started from 0 percentage … but it was increased” has problems with article use, phrasing, and verb form; “washing machines was decreased” also has subject–verb disagreement and an unsuitable passive construction. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are unreliable, with spaces before commas and several long sentences joined without clear control. The response relies heavily on simple past statements and repeated “it can be” patterns, so the range is limited. Practise accurate comparisons using structures such as “ownership rose from … to …,” and check agreement, tense, articles, and punctuation in each sentence.
