Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the broad rise in appliance ownership and the fall in housework, but the response reports only a small part of the chart and does not provide a complete overview. The final paragraph breaks off at “By the”, leaving the housework trend and its comparison with appliance ownership unexplained. Some figures are also inaccurate: refrigerators were at about 2%, not 0%, in 1920, and washing-machine ownership did not rise steadily, as it fell from around 70% in 1960 to 65% in 1980 before increasing again. The claim that washing machines were “less popular” is unclear because ownership still rose overall. The response is also 23 words below the required minimum. Include the main trends and key comparisons, with accurate figures, in a complete summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and sequencing phrases such as “Overall” and “Meanwhile” help signal the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, and the housework data is not developed. The appliance details are presented as separate statements rather than being grouped or compared clearly; for example, the refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner trends could be contrasted with the less consistent washing-machine trend. Some linking is also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “in 1920.” Complete each paragraph and use clear comparisons and references to guide the reader through both charts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “ownership,” “period,” “increased,” and “sharply,” and the general subject is usually understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “showed experienced dramatically growth,” “accounted for at,” and “was started at.” Spelling errors in “vacuume,” “pero[id],” and “gradullay” also reduce accuracy. The phrase “many houses were using these electrical appliances 50%” does not clearly express the housework-hours figure. Build a more reliable set of chart-description phrases, such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “reached a plateau,” and “hours spent on housework,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple past-tense statements and attempts a contrast with “but,” so there is some sentence variety. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty: “amount of time devote doing housework” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase, while “washing machine accounted for at 40%” combines incompatible structures. The sentence beginning “Meanwhile, in 1920” is also incomplete, and the final “By the” fragment prevents the response from forming a complete ending. Articles and prepositions are often missing or misplaced, as in “in household specific in one country to 1920 and 2019.” Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate past-tense reporting, then proofread for sentence boundaries and grammatical patterns.
