Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad patterns: appliance ownership generally increased, while weekly housework hours fell. You also report several relevant figures, including washing machines at 40% initially and about 75% in 2019, and refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980. However, some key details are inaccurate or missing. The refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and the vacuum cleaner rose to 100% by 2000 and remained there in 2019, rather than ending at 75%. The overview also incorrectly says the vacuum cleaner and refrigerator had equal proportions in 2000, when both were at 100% but the washing-machine comparison and the housework trend could be stated more clearly. Include the housework figures and compare the appliance trends more precisely to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph describing appliance data. Sequencing from washing machines to refrigerators is generally understandable, and phrases such as “After that” help signal time changes. However, the final paragraph does not cover the housework series, so the progression through the information is incomplete. Some linking is mechanical or unclear: “After that” is repeated, and the overview’s “In addition” does not clearly connect the two main trends. Long sentences joined with commas also make relationships between details harder to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the appliance trends and housework, and connect comparisons explicitly—for example, contrast the refrigerator’s rapid rise with the washing machine’s later fluctuation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “proportions,” “fluctuations,” “decline” and “reached,” which allows you to describe changes rather than simply list figures. Some less common choices are attempted, but several are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “alterations in ownership,” “time used in doing housework,” “ranked lowest” and “revealed a fluctuations.” Spelling errors in “equiments” and “vaccum” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “the proportion of households owning” an appliance and “hours spent on housework.” Check spelling and use verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable” and “peaked” accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “with the passage of time,” and the main trends are usually understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and punctuation occur in several places. For example, “washing machine started with 40% ,the highest among other at the beginning and reached 70% in 1960” lacks clear sentence boundaries and has an incomplete comparison structure. In “the refrigerator commence,” the verb form does not agree with the past-time account, and “a fluctuations” has incorrect article and number agreement. Missing spaces after punctuation and inconsistent comma use also affect readability. Use consistent past tense, check articles and singular/plural forms, and divide long sentences into clearer units.
