The line graph illustrates the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2010.

Washing machines in 1920 start from 40% households and move slightly up but in 1960 the move downword as previous year after this year the percentage moves up and stand on 63% in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both charts and identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time. Some figures are reported accurately, including washing machines at 40% in 1920 and housework at 50 hours initially. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: washing-machine ownership does not “stand less than” the other appliances throughout, and it rises overall despite a dip around 1980. The description also says the figures reach 100% in 2000, although the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner reach this level at different times, and gives 63% for washing machines in 2019 rather than about 75%. Housework is measured in hours, not percentages or people. Select the main trends more precisely and support them with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to appliance details and then housework. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “In conclusion” signal stages. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow: “the both percentages cross the lines and increase upside” does not clearly explain the comparison, while “after this year” has an unclear reference. The conclusion also repeats the general trends rather than adding a clear summary. Use one paragraph for the overview, then group the appliance trends and housework trend logically, linking each comparison with clear references and accurate time points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentage,” “appliances,” and “housework,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the data difficult to interpret. For example, “increase upside,” “move in a line,” and “stand on 63%” are not natural ways to describe graph trends; “workinh” is also misspelled. Repetition of “move” and “increase” further limits precision. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions, such as “rose steadily,” “fell slightly,” “levelled off,” and “reached 100%,” and use “hours per week” rather than describing the figure as a percentage of people.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. Examples include “the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner electrical appliances increase,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “the both percentages cross the lines,” which has an incorrect determiner pattern. Tense and sentence construction are also problematic in “in 1960 the move downword as previous year” and “the workinh in houses decrease fastly.” Some sentences lack a clear grammatical structure, while punctuation between ideas is limited. Practise forming complete past-tense sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use comparative clauses to describe changes across years.
