Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the general topic and attempts an overview, but it does not adequately summarise the chart. The claim that refrigerators were owned by the largest number of households is broadly supported by the later years, yet saying vacuum cleaners and washing machines “remain lowest” is inaccurate: both rise substantially, and vacuum cleaner ownership reaches 100%. The housework trend is mentioned only vaguely, with no clear figures or comparison. The overview also contains an unclear statement about people spending the most time on housework. Most importantly, the response is far below the required 150 words: 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Add a clear overview and select key figures to describe the appliance trends and the fall in weekly housework.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then an overall statement. However, the ideas are not arranged into a developed summary, and the second sentence combines several unclear claims rather than presenting a logical comparison. The transition “Overall” signals an overview, but there are no body paragraphs or supporting details to guide the reader through the two charts. The relationship between appliance ownership and time spent on housework is also not made clear. Use a short introduction, a distinct overview, and one or two body paragraphs grouped by trend; connect comparisons with simple, accurate links such as “while,” “by contrast,” and “over the same period.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “ownership,” “electrical appliances,” and “spent,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the vocabulary is very limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to follow: “doing households” does not express doing housework, and “vaccume” is misspelled. “Remain lowest” is also an imprecise description of trends that change over time. There is little variety for describing increases, declines, or stable figures. Build a small range of accurate chart language, such as “the proportion of households owning…,” “rose steadily,” “reached a peak,” and “hours of housework per week.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts two sentences, including a present-participial opening in “The graph illustrated…,” but grammatical control is weak and the structures are very limited. In the first sentence, “the changing in ownership” and “amount of time” are not formed correctly, and “in between 1920 and 2019” uses an unnecessary preposition. The overview has problems with articles and agreement in “Refrigerator owned by a large numbers,” while the final clause, “by the time after… its decreased,” is not a complete, clear grammatical construction. Capitalisation and spacing after the full stop are also inconsistent. Practise accurate simple past-tense reporting and complete comparative sentences before attempting more complex structures.
