Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern: appliance ownership generally rose, while time spent on housework fell. You also include relevant figures for washing machines and vacuum cleaners. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Refrigerators were at about 2% in 1920, not absent, and reached 100% by 1980; vacuum-cleaner ownership reached 100% in 2000, rather than at an unspecified point before the end. The housework figures are hours, not percentages, and the final value is about 11 hours. The overview also misses the washing-machine dip and recovery and does not clearly compare the appliances’ different paths. More precise reporting of these features would make the summary fuller and clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, descriptions of the appliance trends, a sentence on housework, and an overall statement. The sequence broadly follows the chart and linking expressions such as “after that,” “whereas,” and “Overall” help connect information. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. However, the overview comes at the end, after the details, and some links do not express the relationship accurately: “whereas outraced the refrigerator’s proportion” is difficult to follow, while “however” does not clearly connect the refrigerator’s rise and subsequent plateau. Grouping the appliance trends together and placing a concise overview before the details would improve progression and make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “dramatic increase,” “reached,” “remained,” “decrease,” and “fluctuation,” so the main changes are generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “hit at the peak,” “showed the increment,” and “outraced the refrigerator’s proportion.” “No percentage” is also imprecise for a value of about 2%. Spelling errors—including “chnages,” “Vaccum,” “reamined,” and “flunctutaion”—are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the report. Aim for standard chart language such as “rose to,” “stood at,” and “levelled off,” and check spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a clause beginning “before falling.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. Articles and sentence structure are inconsistent in phrases such as “proportion of households for washing machine” and “Number of hours per week in 1920 was 50%.” The latter also uses the wrong unit within the sentence: the figure should be expressed as hours. Punctuation and spacing are uneven, particularly around commas and sentence openings, and the long refrigerator sentence is difficult to control. Practise accurate article use and build comparisons in shorter, clearly structured sentences while retaining some complex forms.
