Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the three appliances and includes a brief overview, but the overview is inaccurate: washing machines were not the highest proportion overall, since refrigerators and vacuum cleaners both reached 100%. The claim that vacuum cleaners were the least common is also not true across the period. Some figures are misreported or unclear: in 1960, refrigerators were at 90%, while washing machines and vacuum cleaners were both at about 70%, not 60% and 70% respectively. The response omits the housework-hours series entirely and gives little account of the changes across the years. It also falls short of the required 150 words. To improve, report the main trends in both charts and support a corrected overview with key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs with year-based details. Time markers such as “In 1920,” “Moreover” and “In 2019” help the reader follow the sequence. However, the progression is limited because the account jumps from 1920 to 1960 and then to 2019, leaving the intervening trends unexplained. Some links are unclear or awkward, particularly “Moreover, in 1960” and “In contrast” before the washing-machine trend. The overview also does not provide a reliable organising summary. Grouping the information by overall trend—for example, appliances rising and housework hours falling—and using clearer comparisons would make the report more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “proportion,” “ranked second,” “rose sharply” and “fluctuations.” These attempts show awareness of language for describing charts. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate enough to make parts difficult to understand. “Electrical equipments” is not the natural expression here, while “plummet into 90/” does not clearly describe a rise to 90%. There are also spelling errors such as “demostrates” and “applicnces,” and the repeated use of “ownership” and “rose” restricts precision. Use accurate terms such as “households owning,” “increased to,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few different sentence patterns, including an overview clause beginning “Overall, it is clear that” and a contrast introduced by “In contrast.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur in most sentences. Examples include “the appliances of household is,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “both refrigerator and vacuum cleaner were rose up,” which has an incorrect verb construction. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “the Washing machine” and “both refrigerator and vacuum cleaner.” Punctuation is sometimes missing after full stops, and capitalisation is inconsistent. Practise forming accurate comparative sentences with simple past verbs, such as “Refrigerator ownership rose to 90%,” before adding more complex structures.
