Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line chart breaks down the time as well as the changes in possession of different appliances that run on electricity over a century starting fron 1920 in houses.
Overall, it is evident that both the refrigerator and vaccum cleaner found to be at the peak of the graph in about 2019 and the usage of these machines resulted in lower hours invested for housework throught the whole time frame.
The first graph compares the percantage of residences using washing machine, refrigerator and vaccum cleaner. The popularity of both the refrigerator and vaccum cleaner grew with time. Firstly, the refrigerator started at 0, which later on started rising at a steady rate and suddenly, in 1960 ,the slope started to be a less steep than 1940. Moreover, it remained the same from 1980 to 2019 at 100.Secondly, the vaccum cleaner rose very at a constant steep starting from 30 and it ended on 2000 reaching the figure of 100. After that, it stayed constant. However, this was not the same as the trend of washing machine. On the contray, it faced many fluctuations. In 1920, the number stood at 40 percant which reached it peak in 1960, staying at 70 percant. Unfortunately, it started to decline the following years. Although there was this one fall, in later years starting from 1980, it started to go up , reaching its highest in 2019.
The second graph numbers down the hours that were taken up by household works. Initially, the hours stood at 50 which stared to go down the following years . The rate of the fall was almost constant for a few decades , reaching 20 hours. Although, the trend was always downward, in the years between 1960 to 2019 the fall was less sharperthan before.
To conclude, it can be said that though three of the equipments increased with years, the refrigerator and vaccum cleaner had the highest rate of going upward.Being said that, with the increasing acceptance of the appliances by the people, the hours that were needed to do different works in a house resulted in going down throughout the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify the main overall pattern: appliance ownership generally rose while weekly housework time fell. You also report several useful figures, including washing machines at 40% initially and 70% in 1960, and housework declining from 50 to 20 hours. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. The refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and its rise was not steady throughout: it reached about 55% in 1940 and 90% in 1960 before reaching 100% in 1980. The washing-machine trend also rose again after its dip, ending at 75%, rather than simply reaching an unspecified highest point. The claim that appliance use resulted in fewer housework hours suggests causation not established by the charts. Give a more precise overview and report the key stages accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, separate paragraphs for the appliance and housework charts, and a concluding statement. This makes the information easy to locate. Within the appliance paragraph, however, the sequence becomes difficult to follow because several trends are described in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the refrigerator account combines its early rise, later slope and plateau without clearly distinguishing the years, while “However, this was not the same” shifts abruptly to washing machines. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “Although” are used, but some connections are mechanical or do not clarify the comparison. Group the appliance trends by their key stages and use concise comparisons to make progression more consistent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of chart-related language, including “remained the same,” “decline,” “reaching,” and “trend,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “breaks down the time,” “found to be at the peak,” “numbers down the hours,” and “acceptance of the appliances.” Repeated use of “started to” and “reaching” also limits flexibility. Spelling errors—including “fron,” “vaccum,” “percantage,” and “contray”—reduce accuracy and polish. Choose standard reporting expressions such as “shows,” “stood at,” “rose to,” and “fell to,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish ownership levels from appliance use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “Although” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless affect accuracy. For example, “the refrigerator and vaccum cleaner found to be at the peak” is missing an appropriate verb construction, while “the refrigerator started at 0, which later on started rising” has an unclear reference for “which.” There are also errors in sentence boundaries and punctuation, as in “in 1960 ,the slope,” and some awkward clause structures, such as “the hours that were taken up by household works.” Use clear subjects and verbs, keep each sentence focused on one trend, and review articles, agreement, and punctuation. Greater control of these structures would make the comparisons easier to follow.
