Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework hours fell. You also make useful comparisons, such as vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2000 and washing-machine ownership dipping after 1960. However, some details are incomplete or inaccurate. The refrigerator is described as reaching 100% in 1980 and remaining constant “for three decades,” but it had already reached about 90% in 1960 and stayed at 100% through 2019. The housework figure is said to remain stable after 1960, whereas it fell from about 20 hours to 15 by 1980; it then stayed level until 2000 before declining to about 11. More precise coverage of these stages would make the summary more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate detail sections for appliance ownership and housework. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information. Comparisons such as the vacuum cleaner matching the washing machine in 1960 and overtaking it later also help connect the data. However, some transitions and references are awkward or unclear. For example, “where it remained stable for couple of years” does not clearly identify the period, and the refrigerator details are compressed into one sentence. The repeated use of “whereas,” “where,” and “in contrast” sometimes feels mechanical. Grouping the appliance trends more systematically and using clearer time references would improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “surged,” “surpassed,” “declined,” and “remained constant.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate, which makes some descriptions difficult to interpret. “The proportion of the alteration” and “40% of washing machine was replaced” incorrectly describe ownership as replacement; “ownership” or “the share of households with” would be more suitable. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “illusrates,” “particluar,” “nealy,” and “vacumm.” Some expressions, such as “at staggering 90%” and “declined at considerbly,” are not natural English. More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, connected sentences, for example, “The figure fell to roughly 35 hours per week in 1940 and 20 in 1960.” This shows some range, and the main trends can generally be followed. However, errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and agreement are frequent enough to affect clarity. Examples include “how many hours was spent,” “the trend … increased,” and “In contrast, working hours … declined at considerably.” Several sentences are fragments or have unclear links, such as “whereas vacuum cleaner replaced at rate of 30%.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles and tense consistency when describing past data.
