Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph provides a visual representation of the changes in ownership of electronic appliances and time spend in doing household works in a country between 1920 and 2019.

From an overall perspective, the data illustrates a clear trend of the households containing electrical appliances over the years. The percentage has consistently increased in the usage of the refrigerator, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, with a decreasing order of number of hours each week.

The three electronic appliances in the first graph experienced notable increases in households from% 1920 to 2019. In the Refrigerator, the proportion in household started at 0% and rose to 90% in 1960 afterward it surged to 100% and mentioned constant ratio in next 6 decades. Vacuum cleaner increased rapidly from 30% to 100% in 2000 and remained stable till 2019. Washing machine is in slightly different trend, it began at 40% and ended at around 75% with fluctuations in 2019.

On the contrast, the amount of hours of work in household is in decreasing order im the century.

the trend started at 50 hours per week in 1920 and declined steadily to 10 hours per week in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both charts and give a relevant overview: appliance ownership generally rises, while weekly housework declines. You also identify important endpoints, including washing machines rising from 40% to about 75%, vacuum cleaners reaching 100%, and housework falling from 50 to around 10 hours. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators began at about 2%, not 0%, and reached 90% in 1960 before reaching 100% in 1980, rather than simply “afterward” without a date. The washing-machine trend did not fluctuate throughout; it dipped slightly around 1980 and then rose. The overview also says appliance ownership “consistently increased,” which overlooks this dip and the periods when ownership levelled off. More precise comparisons and selected intermediate figures would develop the report further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership, and a final comparison of housework hours. This makes the main progression easy to follow. You also use basic linking expressions such as “From an overall perspective” and “On the contrast” to signal shifts between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear, particularly “In the Refrigerator” and “afterward it surged,” where the sequence and subject could be expressed more smoothly. The final paragraph is very brief compared with the appliance discussion, so the two charts are not balanced in detail. Use clearer transitions and organise the appliance figures by shared patterns, then give the housework trend a fuller comparison across the period.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “surged,” “declined steadily,” and “remained stable,” which helps describe trends. Some less common choices are attempted, but several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “time spend in doing household works,” “clear trend of the households containing,” and “mentioned constant ratio.” “Electronic appliances” is also less precise than the task’s “electrical appliances.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for standard chart-report collocations such as “the proportion of households owning,” “housework hours fell,” and “levelled off,” and check word forms and spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between appliance ownership and housework and a sentence describing a rise followed by a plateau. The main trends remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the proportion in household started” needs a plural or possessive construction, and “the amount of hours … is in decreasing order” has problems with agreement and sentence structure. The sentence beginning “In the Refrigerator” is also incomplete in its phrasing, while “the trend started … and declined” shifts awkwardly between the chart’s subject and the hours. Improve control of articles, plural forms, and clause construction, and use consistent past-tense verbs when reporting the historical data.
