Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies the broad subject and reports several relevant trends, including the sharp rise in refrigerator ownership and the decline in housework time. However, the overview is unclear and inaccurate: “the highest proportion” and “the lowest figure” are not clearly linked to the series, and the lowest appliance figure occurs in 1920, not across the whole period. Several details are misreported: washing-machine ownership reaches 70% in 1960, falls to about 65% in 1980, then rises to 75% in 2019; the response gives 60%, 70% and 72% for these later points. Vacuum-cleaner ownership rises gradually to 100%, rather than reaching that level within four years. The housework figures are hours, not percentages. Select the main comparisons and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction and overview, then moves through the appliance series and housework. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the body is divided into long, loosely connected sentences and the series are not grouped or compared clearly. Linking words such as “However,” “Whereas” and “therefore” are repeated or used where the relationship between ideas is unclear. For example, the transition from washing machines to vacuum cleaners is buried in one extended sentence. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main details, and group related trends together. Shorter sentences and clearer references to each series would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response attempts a range of trend vocabulary, including “jump significantly,” “decrease,” “incline” and “gradually surge,” but word choice and spelling errors are frequent enough to make some phrases difficult to interpret. Expressions such as “households work,” “refrigerator work” and “the rest of the in information” do not describe the chart accurately or naturally. There are also misspellings, including “comination,” “perpective,” “detials” and “dramitcally.” Some attempted alternatives are not well matched to the data: “surge” suggests a sharp rise, while the final washing-machine increase is modest. Build a reliable set of terms such as “ownership,” “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable” and “reached 100%,” and check spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and some subordinate links, but these structures are often faulty, and grammatical errors sometimes make the intended comparisons hard to understand. For example, “the percentage of household in refrigerator work in 1920 was 1%” has an unclear noun phrase and missing grammatical structure; “it jump significantly” has an incorrect verb form; and “in 1920 at 50%” is not a complete clause. Agreement and tense are also inconsistent, as in “the figure remain same.” Punctuation is unreliable, with commas joining several independent ideas and capital letters appearing after commas. Use complete, shorter sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check past-tense forms, articles and sentence boundaries.
