Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given diagrams illustrate the use of 3 different appliance in household works and amount of time given per week for household from the year 1920 to 2019.

Overall, the use of electical appliance have incresed by time for all appliances which are washine machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner whereas the second diagram gives information about number of hours given for household per week which have been decreasing by time.

Firstly, the use of refrigerator have increased significantly as in the starting of 1920 nearly 01.% household only used it where as by time it rose to 100% in 1980 and remained constant till 2019. the vacuum have also been increasing within time as it was used by 30% of household in the year 1920 which reached to 100% by the year 2000 and remained constant whereas washing machine have been used by 40% in the year 1920 but in the year 1960 it decreased till 1980 and rose to nearly 62% in the 2019.

However, the use of appliances have incresed by time but the number of hours given per week have decreased significantly by time as in 1920 fifty hours was given for household per week which fell to 10% by 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both charts and provide a clear overall trend: appliance ownership generally rose while weekly housework time fell. Several key comparisons are accurately reported, including refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980 and vacuum cleaners reaching full ownership by 2000. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate. The washing-machine figure is described as decreasing from 1960 to 1980, but the response does not give the actual 1980 value, and its final figure of “nearly 62%” conflicts with the chart’s approximate 75%. The housework figure is also given as “10%” in 2019, although this is hours, not a percentage, and the chart shows about 11 hours. Develop the overview and report these distinctions more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership and a final comparison with housework time. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Firstly” and “However” help signal the stages, and the main trends are grouped sensibly. To make the progression clearer and more flexible, avoid placing several appliance trends in one long sentence, and use clearer comparisons between series. For example, separate the refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner trends from the washing-machine figures. The final “However” also repeats the overview rather than adding a distinct comparison; it could directly contrast the fall in housework hours with the rise in appliance ownership.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main trends, including “increased significantly,” “remained constant” and “decreased.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, which makes parts of the report less precise. Phrases such as “use of appliances” and “time given for household” are not natural ways to describe ownership and housework hours; “ownership” and “time spent on housework” would be clearer. There are also spelling errors in common words, including “electical,” “incresed” and “washine,” and “household works” is an awkward expression. Aim for accurate, consistent terms for the chart’s measures rather than repeating “use” and “given.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals and sentence boundaries. For example, “the use … have increased” should be “has increased,” while “the use of refrigerator have increased” needs both an article and singular agreement. “In the starting of 1920” is not a well-formed time expression, and the long sentence beginning “the vacuum have also been increasing” joins several comparisons without clear punctuation. The final sentence also uses “50 hours was given” rather than a natural grammatical construction such as “households spent 50 hours.” More accurate agreement and clearer sentence division would improve control.
