The two line charts illustrate the changes in ownership of electrical appliances among the households in one country and the total time spent on doing house chores over the period of one century (from 1920 to 2019).

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad contrast accurately: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework hours fell. Several key figures are also reported correctly, including washing machines at 40% and vacuum cleaners at 30% in 1920, and refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980. However, the response covers the task only partially: it gives no figures or comparisons for housework hours, despite this being a major feature of the second chart. Some details are inaccurate or imprecise: refrigerator ownership was about 2%, not 0%, in 1920; washing-machine ownership rose to 70% in 2000 and 75% in 2019, rather than simply being “above 70%” at the end. The final sentence is unfinished, leaving the vacuum-cleaner trend incomplete. Include a concise overview and report the main changes in both charts accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about appliance ownership. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “First of all,” and “While” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is incomplete: the housework chart is mentioned in the introduction and overview but never developed with supporting figures, so the two charts are not balanced. The appliance details are also crowded into one paragraph, and the final sentence breaks off after “which remained stable until,” disrupting the flow and leaving the reader without a complete ending. Use separate, clearly focused detail paragraphs for the appliance trends and housework hours, and ensure each sentence and paragraph is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “remained stable,” “consistent growth,” and “decreased,” which helps communicate the main trends. There is some variety in how changes are described, but several word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise, such as “time spent on doing house chores,” “reported an increase in owning,” and “with passing of time.” Spelling errors are noticeable in words such as “housholds,” “vaccum,” and “waching,” and they reduce the overall accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for concise, conventional chart language, for example, “the time spent doing housework” and “the proportion of households owning.” Proofread carefully for spelling and use precise trend verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” and “levelled off.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mixture of sentence forms, including a contrast with “while” and a time clause beginning “by 1980,” so there is some structural variety. However, control is uneven. For example, “all the housholds reported an increase in owning” has an awkward grammatical construction, while “40% hosueholds had washing machine” is missing an article and a preposition. The sentence beginning “In 1980, washing machines fell slightly” also makes the appliance sound as if it declined, rather than its ownership percentage. Punctuation is inconsistent, including an unnecessary full stop and parenthetical repetition in the overview. Build clearer sentences around the percentage as the subject, and check articles, sentence boundaries, and complete clauses.
