Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the topic and mentions some appliance figures, but it does not provide a clear, accurate summary of the main trends. The statement that refrigerators were at 100% and vacuum cleaners at 30% “from 1920 to 2019” wrongly treats values from different years as constant; refrigerators began at about 2%, while vacuum ownership rose to 100%. The claim that vacuum cleaners increased to 100% “from 1940” also misstates the timing: they reached 100% by 2000. Most importantly, the substantial fall in weekly housework, from 50 hours to 11, is not reported. The response is 112 words, below the required 150, which further limits coverage. Select the main trends and compare start and end figures accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then moving through appliance information. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear overview and supporting details, and the second paragraph repeats the refrigerator point rather than developing a new comparison. Connections such as “But” and “regarding the remaining housework” do not make the relationships between the figures clear; the latter is especially confusing because the sentence discusses vacuum cleaners, not housework hours. Several sentences run together or begin with inconsistent capitalisation, which also weakens readability. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and key details, and group the appliance trends together before describing the decline in housework time.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “figure,” “increased,” and “popular,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “Household workers” does not refer to the amount of time spent doing housework, and “the highest percentage of Refrigerator used” is an awkward way to describe ownership. “A large changes came in users” is also unclear and imprecise. Repetition of “figure” and “used” limits variety, while capitalisation of “Refrigerator” is inconsistent. Build a more precise set of terms for describing ownership and trends, such as “households owning,” “rose steadily,” “reached a peak,” and “declined.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “It is evident that…” and a contrast introduced by “Whereas,” but control is weak and sentence patterns are mostly simple or incomplete. Errors include “in 1920 to 2019” instead of a correct time-range construction, “the number for washing machine was increased,” and “there is a large changes,” where verb form and agreement are faulty. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent: “.But” and “.there” join or separate ideas incorrectly, and commas are misplaced around percentages. These problems sometimes make the intended comparisons difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense trend descriptions and complete sentences, then check articles, singular/plural agreement, and punctuation.
