Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph illustrate the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in a country between 1920 to 2019.
Overall, the two line graph illustrate the changes in the ownership of three electrical appliances washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner increased dramatically over the period from 1920 to 2019 meantime the number of hours of housework per week per household decreased at very low ratio over the years.
In 1920, the amount of ownership of refrigerator increased dramatically over the period at 99% of household in 2019. Meantime the amount of ownership of washing machine in 1920 is about 40% and gradually increased at 70% in 2000 and 75% in 2019 however the amount of ownership of vacuum cleaner is 30% in 1920 along that increased sharply to 90% in 1980 and 100% of household in 2019.
By following this meanwhile the number of hours of housework per week per household decreased at very low percentage from 50% in 1920 to 2% in 2019.
IN conculusion, the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in a country between 1920 to 2019 increased with time but the number of hours of labours decreased over the period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you include figures for several years. However, key details are misreported: refrigerator ownership was about 2% in 1920 and reached 100% by 1980, not 99% in 2019 as your account suggests. Housework fell from 50 hours to about 11 hours, not from 50% to 2%; the unit is hours per week. The overview also says housework decreased “at very low ratio,” which does not clearly describe the substantial overall decline. To strengthen the response, report the main stages accurately, including the refrigerator’s rapid rise and the later levelling off, and compare the three appliance trends with the housework figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership, and a final paragraph on housework. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is weakened by unclear or mechanical links such as “By following this meanwhile,” and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than synthesising the data. The appliance paragraph also moves between series without a consistently clear comparison, while the housework trend is compressed into one sentence and contains a confusing endpoint. Use one paragraph to compare appliance trends and another to describe housework, with clear transitions such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile.” Avoid adding a separate conclusion if it only repeats the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “ownership,” “electrical appliances,” and “housework,” and attempt trend language such as “increased dramatically” and “decreased.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated or imprecise, which sometimes makes the data difficult to interpret. For example, “amount of ownership” is an unnatural collocation, and “decreased at very low percentage” does not express the scale of the decline clearly. “Hours of labours” is also unsuitable for this context. Choose precise terms for trends and units, and vary them appropriately: describe percentages as household ownership and the second series as hours per week. Check spelling in “conculusion” and use standard capitalisation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to combine ideas using clauses and contrast markers, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors recur throughout. For example, “The graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “between 1920 to 2019” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. The overview sentence beginning “the two line graph illustrate” also lacks correct agreement and punctuation around the list of appliances. Tense and sentence construction are inconsistent in “the amount … in 1920 is about 40% and gradually increased.” These errors can make relationships between figures unclear. Practise accurate simple comparative sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check agreement, articles, prepositions, and punctuation when editing.
