Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The charts demonstrate the trends of owning 3 different electrical home appliances and number of weekly workhours in doing house chores in a country between year 1920 and year 2019.
Overall, uses of all the mentioned electrical appliances have shown increasing growth in 2019 compared to 1920. Subsequently, weekly hours spent on housework have shown significance decrease in 2019 in comparison with 1920.
The top chart shows that the percentage of households using refrigerator and vaccum cleaner have increased continuously from 1920 to 1980. The use of refrigerator peaked to 100% at 1980 and kept stability till 2019. On the other hand, the use of vaccum cleaner peaked to 100% in 2000 and maintained the stability similarly. Use of washing machine increased from 40% to 70% til 1960 but fell down a bit from 1960 to 1980. However, from 1980, it again showed increase from 1980 and finally arrived at around 75% in 2019.
The bottom chart supports the trend of top chart showing continuous decreasing pattern of number of workhours on housework per week. The amount decreased rapidly from 1920 and came down from 50 hours per week to 20 hours per week in 1960. The decreasing trend, however, slowed down a bit as in kept a constant rate of approximately 18 hours per week from 1980 to 2000. Finally, In 2019, workhours per week came down to 10 hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main overall contrast accurately: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell substantially. The response also selects useful details, including the refrigerator reaching 100% by 1980, the washing-machine dip after 1960, and housework dropping from 50 to 20 hours by 1960. These comparisons give the report clear coverage of both charts. Some details are imprecise: the refrigerator began at about 2%, not simply an unspecified low level, and housework was about 15 hours in both 1980 and 2000, rather than approximately 18. Also, “all” appliances did not rise continuously, since washing-machine ownership declined between 1960 and 1980. More exact reporting and a sharper distinction between overall growth and individual fluctuations would strengthen the account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-part structure: introduction, overview, appliance details, and housework details. The progression from the first chart to the second is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “However,” and “Finally” help signal contrasts and sequence. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. At times, however, cohesion is mechanical or repetitive: “from 1980” is repeated in the washing-machine sentence, and “The bottom chart supports the trend of top chart” creates a connection that is not fully logical, since the second chart shows a related outcome rather than proving the first chart’s trend. Use more precise references and avoid repeating time markers to make the flow more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “peaked,” “maintained,” “decreased,” and “trend,” so the main information is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “in comparison with” and “continuous decreasing pattern.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing chart data: “uses of … appliances,” “showed significance decrease,” “kept stability,” and “came down” could be expressed more idiomatically. Spelling errors in “vaccum” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard collocations such as “ownership rose,” “remained stable,” and “fell to,” and choose verbs that distinguish a peak from a plateau.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “On the other hand” and “However,” and most meanings remain understandable. Some grammatical errors are present, though they rarely prevent the reader from following the trends. For example, “between year 1920 and year 2019” needs articles or a more natural time expression, while “The decreasing trend … as in kept” has an incorrect clause structure. In “from 1980, it again showed increase from 1980,” the repeated phrase also disrupts the sentence. There are inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, including “In 2019” after a comma. Practise accurate article use, complete clause construction, and varied sentence patterns while proofreading for repeated or incomplete wording.
