Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given line charts illustrate the trends of electrical appliances ownership and the work in householdes in a country during the period of 1920 to 2019. Overall, the trend rose for the appliances purchase but on the other hand, trend decline for the housework.

Looking at the appliance ownership trends, we can clearly see that refrigerator ownships increase suprisingly over the time while vacuum cleaner ownership shows a steady increase. Meanwhile, the number of hours of a housework decrease from 50 hours per week to 10 hours per week between 1920 to 2019.

In 1920, 40% of the houses had the washing machines while no one owns the refrigerator. We can clearly see that by 1940 start around half of the country owns the refigerator. On the other hand, we can see a slightly decline of washing machine ownership in mid 1980.

We can clearly see that appliances ownership has the relative effect over the hour work. For example, the ownership started raising in start of 1940 and the working hors started decling in the 1940.By the 2019 almost whole country owns the ownership of the appliance so they spent minimum time on the house work

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You provide a relevant overview of the main contrast: appliance ownership generally increased while time spent on housework fell. You also include useful figures, such as washing machines at 40% in 1920 and housework declining from 50 to about 10 hours. This covers the task well, and the broad trends are clear. However, some key details are missing or imprecise: the refrigerator reached 100% by 1980 and remained there, while vacuum cleaner ownership rose to 100% by 2000. The claim that “no one” owned a refrigerator in 1920 is inaccurate, as the figure was about 2%. The final claim that appliance ownership caused the reduction in housework is not established by the charts. More precise comparisons and a fuller account of the endpoints would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details and a concluding comparison. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Meanwhile” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is sometimes weakened by repeated framing such as “We can clearly see,” and the final paragraph shifts into an unsupported explanation rather than summarising the data. Some references are unclear, including “the working hors” and “the ownership,” so readers must infer what is being compared. Organise the body around the appliance trends and the housework trend, and use direct comparisons and clearer references to make the sequence more cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ownership,” “steady increase,” “decline,” and “hours per week,” which allows the main trends to be understood. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general wording and several inaccurate forms or collocations: “appliances purchase,” “refrigerator ownships,” “the hour work,” and “minimum time.” Spelling errors such as “suprisingly,” “refigerator,” and “decling” are also noticeable. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a more precise set of trend expressions and check spelling and word forms; for example, describe household ownership as “the proportion of households owning an appliance” and housework time as “weekly hours spent on housework.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrastive overview and clauses beginning “while” and “so.” The main message is generally recoverable, but grammatical errors occur across the response and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “the trend rose … but … trend decline,” “refrigerator ownships increase,” and “between 1920 to 2019,” where tense, agreement, or sentence patterns are not controlled. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in phrases such as “a housework” and “the washing machines.” Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of the historical data, subject–verb agreement, and standard comparison patterns such as “from … to … between … and ….”
