Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s general subject and include a potentially useful overview, but the main features are not reported accurately or fully. For example, refrigerators reached 100% by 1980 and stayed there, and vacuum-cleaner ownership rose to 90% by 1980 before reaching 100% in 2000; however, the response says the vacuum-cleaner figure “plumged” and gives an unclear account of its trend. The washing-machine description is also confusing, and the housework-hours series is introduced but its trend is cut off. The response is 34 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Select the key trends, report accurate comparisons, and complete the account of falling housework hours.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation: you begin with an introduction, provide an overview, and then move to details about appliances and housework. However, progression is difficult to follow because several sentences combine unclear or contradictory information, such as the account of vacuum-cleaner ownership “plumged” and then remained constant. The transition “In other table” signals a new topic, but the final sentence stops before completing its point, leaving the second chart without a clear conclusion. Punctuation and spacing also make the links between ideas harder to see. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the two chart details, and connect each comparison explicitly so the reader can follow the trends.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentages,” “fluctuated,” “remained constant,” and “housework,” so the topic is generally recognisable. There is also an attempt to vary wording rather than repeat the chart labels throughout. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable: “vaccum” and “plumged” obscure the intended terms, while “for next 40 decades” is an unsuitable expression for the period shown. “Electrical equipment” is understandable, but “electrical appliances” is more precise for this chart. Build accuracy with common trend language and check spelling and collocations; this will make your descriptions clearer without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “Overall, proportion of vaccum cleaner rose dramatically…” and the sentence describing the refrigerator. However, grammatical control is uneven, and several structures are incomplete or difficult to interpret. Articles are missing in “proportion of” and “number of hours,” while “washing machine fluctuated in 1960 and following the downhill trend” does not form a clear, complete structure. The final sentence ends with “showed dow,” so its meaning and grammar remain unfinished. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly around commas and sentence boundaries. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use accurate past-tense forms when describing changes over time.
