Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad relationship between appliance ownership and housework, and give useful figures for refrigerators and vacuum cleaners. However, the overview contains a major contradiction: it says washing-machine ownership was highest initially and then reached a minimum, although it rises overall from about 40% to 75%, with only a dip around 1980. The washing-machine trend is not described in the detail paragraphs, and the housework account stops after 1960, omitting its later decline and plateau. The introduction also says the units are percentages, without clarifying that housework is measured in hours. These omissions and inaccurate reporting leave the task only partially addressed. To improve, summarise all three appliance trends accurately and compare the full housework trend through 2019.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and separate detail paragraphs for appliances and housework. Sequencing within the refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner paragraph is generally clear, with time markers such as “in 1920,” “by the year 1980” and “next 40 years.” However, progression is incomplete: the final paragraph ends abruptly after “still continue falling,” so the later figures and the conclusion of the trend are not connected. Some linking is mechanical or inaccurate, as in “Though … Similarly,” and the overview’s washing-machine statement conflicts with the data that follows. Use clear paragraph development and connect each comparison to the next period; finish the housework account and ensure the overview accurately previews the details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “negligible,” “sharply increased,” “reached a peak” and “maintained the same level.” These choices help communicate the main movements. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision: “ownership electric appliances” is awkward, “ownerships” is not the natural form here, and “working hours of housework” does not accurately describe hours spent doing housework. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “particulrly,” “waship” and “than” where “then” is intended. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling; for example, use “ownership of electrical appliances” and “hours spent on housework.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning “Though” and “whereas,” and most of the intended meaning can be followed. However, errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. For example, “the ownership … were increased” has incorrect agreement and passive construction; “which than sharply increased” is not a complete, correctly linked clause; and “still continue falling” has an inconsistent verb form. The overview also begins “then reached” as a sentence fragment, while the final sentence is unfinished. Practise forming complete sentences with consistent past-tense reporting, such as “ownership rose” and “housework hours continued to fall,” and proofread punctuation and clause links.
